Description
The Sparks Yard Man is responsible for the efficient day to day coordination and execution of Milne Towing Services Sparks Yard Operations. The Sparks Yard Man is a key member of the Milne Towing Services Team who is responsible for day to day yard operations including: Auction Preparation, Customer Service, Facility Maintenance & Cleaning, Tool & Tow Equipment Maintenance/Forklift, Vehicle Storage Management, Security and office backup. The success of this position hinges upon excellent operational execution, attention to detail, highest level of honesty and integrity and clear, effective communication with all employees.
Customer Service
• Open and Close Yard Gate: 8:00 am Open; 5:00 pm Close & Lock
• Provide positive appearance & attitude to customers
• Wear Uniform when on-duty
• Carry and respond to radio/cell phone when on-duty
• Support Dispatchers and Office Staff for Yard/shop related requests
• Escort customers to vehicles to retrieve registrations or personal belongings
. Ensure appropriate paperwork filled out for escort, property removal, etc.
• Escort/show Insurance adjusters to vehicles
• Provide General Customer Assistance
Auction
• Auction Set-up (second Saturday of every month)
o Verify Auction Vehicle Set-up with Lien Manager and Supervisor
o Move vehicles into auction order
o Clean Auction Vehicles to standard defined by vehicle condition
o Remove license plates from auction vehicles
o Coordinate getting keys made for specified vehicles
§ Ensure key paperwork given to manager in timely fashion
o Prepare vehicles for auction
§ Work with Impound Manager to determine how much effort to put into getting vehicle to run prior to auction
• Manage Items removed from Auction vehicles
o Do not remove private property from an auction vehicle until 3-4 days prior to Auction unless concerned about theft - then discuss with Supervisor
o Store personal property in designated secure area
o Discuss disposition of personal property items with GM prior to sale, disposal, or offering to employees - no useful items to be disposed of prior to auction
o Arrange for donation to Designated Charities
• Auction Day
o Set up Auction Signs
o Run Battery Cart & Start Cars
o Provide security during auction
o Assist buyers with getting their purchased vehicles loaded and out of yard
o Manage Vehicle Keys
Facility Maintenance
• Maintain Clean Yard -
o free of car parts, garbage & weeds
• Maintain Yard Street Frontage - free of garbage & weeds
• Ensure Fences, Gates, and Shop Doors are Properly Functioning - Repair as required
• Replace burned out lights
• Empty Garbage
• Ensure Yard Entrance/Driveway are Properly Maintained
o Neat & Clean
o Hoses disconnected in freezing weather and coiled and neat all times
o Equipment put away
• Work with Drivers to ensure they do their part to keep areas clean
• Perform Minor Repairs and/or report issues to Manager
• Maintain Signs/Remove Graffiti
• Work with Drivers to reduce yard damage
• Repair major cracks in asphalt
o Clean & stock supplies as needed during the week
o Request materials or outside assistance as required to maintain premises
Milne Tool & Tow Equipment Management
• Keep all tools properly stored & securely locked
• Keep all equipment in designated location
• Ensure all tools used/loaned are clean and put away
• Ensure Tow Equipment and Supplies and Securely Stored
• Ensure No Towing Equipment Issued without Management Authorization
Forklift (minimum of 1 year experience)
• Obtain current Forklift certification
• Ensure Forklift General Maintenance Items & Inspection Performed
• Track Maintenance Interval and arrange for forklift service as required
• Ensure Forklift is clean, oiled, greased (weekly)
• Ensure Forklift kept inside in inclement weather
Vehicle Storage
• Ensure Vehicles are stored based upon yard storage plan
o Vehicles with obvious valuable personal property visible - indoor storage
• Ensure all vehicles that may be leaking have drip pan placed underneath
• Ensure any Hazardous waste is cleaned up appropriately
• Protect "Wrap" Vehicles from weather - as appropriate
• Conduct monthly vehicle inventory during Week 3 of each month
• Provide office with daily record on specified forms of any vehicle receiving Hazmat and/or Protective wrap to facilitate proper billing
• Conduct monthly vehicle inventory and provide to Impound Manager - work with GM to design process
• Note whether any open vehicles have personal property present and notify Supervisor if theft danger exists
• Minimize vehicle movement as much as practical
Security
• Escort at all times, unauthorized people entering yard
• Recommend better ways to protect yard, vehicles and personal property
• Be visible and assist as necessary dispatch/office staff if unruly people are causing disturbance
• Notify police agencies immediately if any person is threatened by another
Requirements
Key Performance Metrics
- All tasks completed in a quality, timely and efficient manner
- Will be working outside regardless of weather (cold or hot)
- Must have valid driver license
- Will be required to drive a forklift
-Overtime is not typical but must be available to work the 2nd Saturday of every month for auction day
