DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Model Maker to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in fabrication, model making, finishing, woodworking, molding, casting, and vacuum forming. This role requires excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently to create high-quality models and prototypes from various materials and techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Painting and Finishing: Apply paint, coatings, and finishes to models and prototypes using various techniques, including spraying, brushing, and hand-painting.
  • Filling and Fairing: Fill and fair surfaces to achieve a smooth, even finish, using materials such as putty, filler, and sanding compounds.
  • Model Assembly: Assemble complex models and prototypes using a variety of materials, including wood, metal, plastics, and composites.
  • Woodworking: Operate and maintain woodworking equipment, such as table saws, miter saws, and sanders, to cut, shape, and finish wood components.
  • Model Making: Create accurate and detailed models and prototypes from designs, plans, and specifications, using a range of materials and techniques.
  • Engineering Drawings and CAD: Read and interpret engineer drawings and CAD drawings to ensure accurate model making and prototyping.
  • Fabrication: Fabricate models and prototypes using various materials, including metals, plastics, and composites, using techniques such as machining, welding, and bonding.
  • Molding and Casting: Create molds and castings using various materials, including silicone, urethane, and epoxy, to produce accurate and detailed replicas.
  • Vacuum Forming: Use vacuum forming equipment to create complex shapes and forms from thermoplastic materials.
  • Must have Safety Shoes

MANDATORY:
Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience with the following:
  • High School diploma, or equivalent experience/combined education with additional specialized technical training equivalent to a technical associate degree and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned technical tasks and 3-5 years or more of experience.
  • Painting, filling, and fairing techniques.
  • Assembly of complex models and prototypes.
  • Operating and maintaining woodworking equipment, including table saws, miter saws, and sanders.
  • Woodworking principles, including cutting, shaping, and joining.
  • Fabrication techniques, including machining, welding, and bonding.
  • Molding and casting techniques, including mold making and casting materials.
  • 3D Models
  • Vacuum forming equipment and techniques.
  • Reading and interpreting engineer drawings and CAD drawings.

DESIRED:
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 35 pounds, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with power tools, machinery, and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, earplugs, and a dust mask.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
