Contract Typescript Developer information

What is a contract Typescript developer?

A Contract Typescript Developer is a software professional who specializes in using the TypeScript programming language to build and maintain web and software applications on a contractual basis. Unlike full-time employees, contract developers are typically hired for specific projects or timeframes, providing flexibility for both the developer and the employer. TypeScript is a superset of JavaScript that adds static typing, which helps in catching errors early and improving code quality. These developers often work remotely or on-site, collaborating with teams to deliver high-quality code solutions. Their expertise is highly sought after for projects requiring scalable, maintainable, and robust applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract Typescript developer?

To thrive as a Contract Typescript Developer, you need a strong command of TypeScript, JavaScript, and web development fundamentals, often backed by a degree in computer science or relevant experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control (Git), and experience with build tools and CI/CD systems are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help developers stand out, especially in remote or fast-paced contract environments. These abilities ensure high-quality, maintainable code and seamless collaboration with diverse teams, which is vital for delivering successful projects on time.

What are some typical challenges a contract Typescript developer might face when joining a new project?

As a Contract Typescript Developer, you may encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to an existing codebase, aligning with the team's development standards, and understanding project-specific workflows. Since contract roles often require rapid onboarding, you might need to familiarize yourself with various tools, libraries, and deployment processes in a short timeframe. Additionally, effective communication with remote or cross-functional teams is essential to ensure smooth collaboration and timely delivery of tasks.

Job description

Title: Senior Front-End Developer

Location: Richmond, VA

Employment Type: Contract

Experience Level: Senior (6+ years in UI/UX, 3+ years with React)

You’ll own significant parts of the front-end architecture, from concept and design through development, testing, and release. This is a hands-on role with opportunities to influence technical standards, mentor others, and shape how we build modern web applications.

## What You’ll Do

- Develop mission-critical user interfaces using React, TypeScript, and modern front-end tooling.

- Write clean, efficient, secure, and well-tested JavaScript/TypeScript code.

- Build modular, reusable components and shared libraries to improve consistency and speed of delivery.

- Prepare and produce releases of software components, including versioning and change notes.

- Investigate, debug, and fix defects across environments; perform root-cause analysis and implement lasting solutions.

- Collaborate in an Agile team (Scrum/Kanban), participating in sprint planning, grooming, reviews, and retrospectives.

- Contribute to technical standards, provide guidance to peers, and help define front-end architecture and patterns.

- Keep applications performant, accessible, and secure, following best practices for web performance and security.

- Use Git for version control and follow team workflows for branching, code review, and merges.

- Stay current with front-end technologies and bring practical improvements to the codebase and development process.

## Must-Have Skills & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

- 6+ years of professional UI/UX experience building complex web applications.

- 3+ years of professional experience with React in production environments.

- Basic understanding and hands-on exposure to Next.js (routing, SSR/SSG concepts, data fetching).

- Strong knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.

- Familiarity with UI component libraries, especially Material-UI (MUI).

- Experience writing efficient, secure, and maintainable front-end code.

- Proven ability to build modular, reusable components and libraries.

- Experience with Jest for unit and integration testing of front-end code.

- Comfortable using Git for collaborative development and code reviews.

## Nice to Have

- Experience with Spring Boot and consuming REST APIs from the front end.

- Exposure to Kafka or other event-driven/messaging systems.

- Knowledge of MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.

- Experience with Azure DevOps (boards, repos, pipelines).

- Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) concepts and patterns.

- Understanding of microservices architecture and how front ends integrate with them.

- Hands-on experience with Gradle or similar build tools.
