Position Summary:The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing trailers to ensure they meet safety and performance standards. This role involves routine maintenance, structural repairs, brake and suspension system servicing, and troubleshooting mechanical issues on various types of trailers, including dry vans, flatbeds, refrigerated units, and tankers.
Key Responsibilities:- Inspect trailers for mechanical and structural issues.
- Diagnose and repair brake systems, suspension, air systems, and electrical wiring.
- Replace or repair components such as axles, bearings, tires, lights, doors, and flooring.
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure trailer functionality and safety.
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs and inspections performed.
- Ensure compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Weld or fabricate parts when needed.
- Operate tools and equipment including jacks, lifts, and pneumatic tools safely.
- Work collaboratively with dispatch, drivers, and other mechanics.
Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent (technical school training is a plus).
- Proven experience as a trailer mechanic or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of trailer systems and mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Welding and fabrication skills are preferred.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and diagnostic tools.
- Valid Driver license
