They often work for a fixed period or on specific projects, providing specialized testing expertise. Their responsibilities may include developing test plans, performing automated or manual testing, identifying bugs, and collaborating with development teams to resolve issues. Contract Test Engineers are commonly found in industries like software development, manufacturing, and electronics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Test Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Test Engineer, you need expertise in software testing methodologies, test case development, debugging, and a relevant degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with automated testing tools (such as Selenium or JUnit), version control systems, and knowledge of CI/CD pipelines are commonly required. Job description

Test Engineer

Test Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Test Engineer to design, execute and maintain manual and automated testing across web, API, mobile and embedded platforms. The role focuses on creating reliable test automation frameworks, validating performance, security and accessibility, and integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines to ensure high quality releases. The ideal candidate combines strong test case design and hands-on automation skills with experience in performance tools, API testing, mobile testing, and collaboration within Agile teams.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design, author and execute clear, maintainable test cases for functional, integration, system and regression testing across web, API, mobile (iOS/Android) and embedded/hardware components.
  • Develop, maintain and extend automated test suites using Selenium WebDriver, Appium, TestNG, PyTest, Robot Framework or equivalent frameworks.
  • Build and enhance test automation frameworks and libraries to support UI, API, and end-to-end testing; integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins).
  • Implement and maintain API test suites using RestAssured, SoapUI and Postman; validate API contracts, error handling and edge cases.
  • Plan and execute performance and load testing using JMeter and LoadRunner; analyze results and work with engineering to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Design and execute security/penetration test cases and accessibility testing to ensure compliance with standards and to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Create and manage test data sets and environments; utilize virtualization and containers (Docker) to reproduce and scale test scenarios.
  • Track, report and manage defects using tools such as JIRA and Bugzilla; work with development teams to prioritize and verify fixes.
  • Collaborate with developers and product owners in Agile ceremonies; promote Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD/Cucumber) practices where appropriate.
  • Monitor test metrics and quality KPIs, producing clear reports and recommendations for risk-based release decisions.
  • Automate test execution and reporting through CI/CD and version control (GIT); write scripts in Python, Bash or JavaScript to support tooling and test orchestration.
  • Mentor junior testers and help foster a culture of quality, continuous improvement and automation-first testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in software testing with a mix of manual and automated testing responsibilities.
  • Proven experience with test automation frameworks and tools: Selenium WebDriver, Appium, TestNG, PyTest, Robot Framework.
  • Strong programming/scripting skills in one or more languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, Bash) and experience with testing libraries (RestAssured, JUnit).
  • Hands-on API testing experience using Postman, SoapUI, RestAssured and familiarity with JSON/XML and HTTP concepts.
  • Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins) and working with version control (GIT).
  • Performance testing experience with JMeter and/or LoadRunner, including result analysis and tuning recommendations.
  • Experience with mobile testing on iOS and Android platforms, and familiarity with device farms or emulators.
  • Knowledge of database testing and writing SQL for data validation and test setup.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and container technologies (Docker) and testing in cloud or containerized environments.
  • Experience with defect tracking tools such as JIRA or Bugzilla and a strong understanding of test metrics and reporting.
  • Practical exposure to security/penetration testing and accessibility testing best practices.
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD/Cucumber) is preferred.
  • Experience with embedded/hardware testing is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration skills and a proactive, problem-solving attitude.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced Agile environment and drive continuous improvement in test processes.
