Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

A Product Development Technician’s role is to support new product and process development activities. Build high precision optical connectors and other related fiber optic telecommunication products and analyze them according to internal and industry test standards. They must collaborate with development engineers to deliver connectivity solutions for manufacturing.

As a minimum a Product Development Technician should be able to:

  • Build high precision optical connectors and other related fiber optical telecommunication products
  • Perform industry standardized testing
  • Use connectorization lab equipment in a safe manner
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously
Key Responsibilities
  • Support development engineers in creating new products while generating deep scientific understanding
  • Build standard and custom optical connectors using both existing and newly developed manufacturing processes.
  • Complete mechanical and optical testing to assess product performance
  • Perform troubleshooting of product and equipment
  • Collect and analyse numerical data
  • Create and modify documentation including manufacturing instructions
Experiences/Education - Required
  • Strong hands-on aptitude
  • Experience with mechanical test equipment, microscopes and other measurement devices
  • Familiar with safe lab practices
  • 3D CAD modeling experience (SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Creo, or similar)
  • Functions well in ambiguous situations and addresses issues proactively
  • Works well in a team environment, is a “self-starter” and “results oriented”
  • Positive attitude, flexible, proactive, and committed work ethic
  • Proficient with various software platforms such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc
Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Associates degree in engineering preferred
  • 3D printing experience
  • Fiber Optic technician with at least 2-years experience building optical products

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.  

The range for this position is $60,620.00 - $83,353.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
