What is a contract social media?

A Contract Social Media job is a temporary or project-based role where a professional manages a company's social media presence. Responsibilities may include content creation, scheduling posts, engaging with followers, and analyzing performance metrics. These roles are often remote or freelance, allowing flexibility in work hours and commitments. Contract positions may range from short-term projects to long-term engagements, depending on the company's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the contract social media position?

To thrive as a Contract Social Media professional, you need expertise in content creation, platform management, and analytics, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with social media management tools like Hootsuite, Sprout Social, and analytics dashboards, as well as certifications such as Hootsuite Certification or Meta Blueprint, is highly beneficial. Strong communication, creativity, time management, and adaptability are key soft skills for excelling in this role. These competencies ensure effective brand messaging, data-driven decision-making, and the ability to quickly respond to trends and audience needs in a fast-paced digital environment.

  • Support general marketing, community event activations, and administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management to support evolving organizational needs.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and present a friendly, cooperative attitude.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum experience managing social media accounts, producing digital content, or running institutional/brand channels (internship or freelance contract experience accepted).
  • Familiar with multi‑social posting through programs such as Buffer, Hootsuite, and HubSpot.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
  • Basic graphic design and mobile video editing skills (Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar tools).
  • Ability to work alongside a diverse group of team members while working toward many company initiatives.
  • Entry‑level understanding of marketing strategy and how to use the concepts throughout various forms of outreach.
  • Strong written communication, storytelling, and copy‑editing skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to assigned work locations.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for current or future employment. GWH does not offer visa sponsorship for employment purposes.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Consistent publishing cadence across active platforms (maintaining agreed‑upon monthly content calendar goals)
  • Timely social community engagement and escalation of customer service inquiries
  • Find and develop success stories for use throughout GWH
