Contract SEO/AEO Website Content Editor

The Mx Group

Burr Ridge, IL • On-site

$60 - $70/hr

Part-time, Contractor

Posted 8 days ago

Job description

MX is seeking a strategic, detail-driven Contract SEO/AEO Website Content Editor to elevate the quality, clarity, and performance of our web page content. This role goes beyond execution, requiring a strong command of SEO, AEO, brand voice, and editorial standards to shape content that drives measurable impact in a fast-paced agency environment.

You'll play a critical role in defining how a marketing and advertising brand shows up in the market, particularly during pivotal moments like rebrands and digital transformations. Partnering with a highly collaborative, cross-functional team, you'll ensure content not only meets a high editorial bar but also delivers against business objectives.

If you bring a balance of editorial precision, creativity, and strategic thinking and thrive in dynamic, evolving environments, we'd love to connect.

This is a part-time, contract role with expected hours ranging from 15-25 per week, depending on workload. Our team will work with you to prioritize projects and manage capacity.

What You'll Do
  • Write, edit and refine content across formats, including websites, landing pages, blogs, and campaign assets, with a strong emphasis on performance and usability.
  • Lead with advanced SEO / AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) / GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) expertise optimizing content for search visibility, intent alignment, structured data, featured snippets, and AI-driven discovery; naturally incorporate keywords, map content to the buyer journey, and continuously refine based on performance insights.
  • Integrate and manage content within HubSpot, confidently making updates and edits to ensure accuracy across pages.
  • Go beyond copyediting and proofreading to shape, restructure, and elevate content, improving flow, clarity, messaging hierarchy, and conversion impact while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
  • Partner closely with Creative, Internal Marketing, Digital Experience, and Content Marketing teams to ensure cohesive storytelling, seamless UX, and integrated execution across channels.
  • Help establish and evolve editorial standards, particularly for new brand launches and website builds.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback to continuously raise the bar on content quality, engagement, and effectiveness.
  • Operate with speed, flexibility, and sound judgment, navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities while maintaining high editorial standards in a deadline-driven environment.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of website content editing and writing experience, ideally within a B2B marketing or agency environment, with a strong track record of performance-driven content
  • Experienced in content integration within CMS platforms, particularly HubSpot, with strong confidence and autonomy in making content updates and edits directly within the system.
  • Proven ability to edit with performance in mind (not just readability), leveraging data, SERP insights, and evolving search behaviors to inform decisions
  • Experience editing content for new brands and website builds, with the ability to shape and scale voice from the ground up.
  • Knows how to strike the balance between discoverability and distinction - creating content that's structured to perform across search and AI-driven experiences, while still carrying a clear point of view, unique voice, and editorial quality that makes the brand worth paying attention to.
  • Strong understanding of content strategy, buyer journeys, and digital user experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to high editorial and quality standards
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and evolving project parameters with confidence
  • Highly organized, curious, and self-motivated, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines

Compensation Range: $60 - $70 hourly. MX believes it will pay this pay range for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation will be determined based on the applicant's experience, skills, and qualifications, in addition to the requirements of the position. MX reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. This is an independent contractor relationship; therefore, ineligible to participate in MX's benefits program.
