Position Description: School Social Worker
Reports to: Principal
Status: Exempt
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Promote the emotional, social, and physical growth of scholars in elementary school.
Responsibilities:
Provide social work services to scholars and families in alignment with the school's vision to see all scholars reach high levels of academic success.
Work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff to assess students and develop strategies for success in the classroom.
Provide individual, family, and group therapy to children, adolescents, and their families.
Decide frequency, focus, and duration of counseling on a case-by-case basis.
Provide consultation to Teachers and to Christopher House staff members regarding specific children and specific treatment issues.
Make home visits to clients when appropriate.
Participate as a member of the school's IEP team.
Participate in required assessment planning, eligibility determination, 504 Plan, and IEP meetings as needed.
Participate in staffing by making observations of the child and obtaining and sharing relevant family background information.
Work collaboratively to integrate services with all departments, staff and volunteers.
Provide parent educational workshops regarding topics requested by parents and common challenges among our families and scholars.
Prioritize student safety through consistent implementation of the Student Code of Conduct and school wide systems of management and discipline.
Manage each case with necessary documentation.
Ensure all service delivery information is provided in alignment with scholar IEPs.
Ensure timely and accurate records are recorded regarding service provision.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: (Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities)
Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Professional Educators License (PEL)
Master's degree from accredited university in the area of Social Work
Illinois type 73 in School Social Work
Two years of experience as a school Social Worker preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, walk, go up and down stairs daily, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
