Job description

Job Title: General LaborerJob Description

The General Laborer supports daily yard and warehouse operations by assisting customers, safely handling materials, and maintaining an organized, presentable, and safe work environment. This role involves loading and unloading products, moving materials throughout the yard, verifying documentation, and working closely with both customers and internal team members in a primarily outdoor setting.

Responsibilities
  • Assist customers in locating, loading, and unloading products and materials in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Load and unload materials onto and from company and internal team flatbed trailers for deliveries, ensuring all loads are properly secured and handled safely.
  • Review materials loaded against invoices, pick tickets, or requisitions to confirm accuracy and completeness.
  • Complete and route all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner to support yard and delivery operations.
  • Move products and materials throughout the yard, ensuring they are placed in the correct designated areas.
  • Monitor and maintain proper stocking levels of products and materials so inventory remains available and accessible at all times.
  • Perform routine cleanup and maintenance of the yard to maintain a safe, organized, and presentable work environment.
  • Inspect materials, loads, and loading conditions to help ensure safe transportation and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate material handling, staging, and loading activities in the yard.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, loading, and repetitive movements throughout the workday.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working in the yard.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum six (6) months of experience in a yard, warehouse, construction, building materials, or similar industrial environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform general labor, including lifting, carrying, loading, and repetitive physical tasks throughout the day.
  • Customer service skills with the ability to professionally assist customers in locating, loading, and unloading products.
  • Comfort working both independently and as part of a team in an outdoor yard environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to handle material handling tasks safely and efficiently in a busy yard or warehouse setting.
  • Dependable work ethic with a focus on safety, organization, and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Ability to review and verify materials against invoices, pick tickets, or requisitions with attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience safely operating forklift equipment in a busy yard environment is a plus.
  • Experience loading, unloading, moving, and staging materials in an outdoor yard setting is preferred.
  • Experience loading, balancing, and securing materials on flatbed trailers for safe transportation is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a lumber yard, building materials, or construction industry environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with outdoor yard operations and customer-facing work environments is beneficial.
  • Willingness to complete forklift training and obtain forklift certification through internal training programs.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an outdoor yard environment, with regular exposure to changing temperatures, weather conditions, equipment noise, and dust. The role involves frequent physical activity, including lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds regularly and, on occasion, up to 80 pounds. Steel-toed or composite safety boots are required and are the responsibility of the contractor to provide. Additional personal protective equipment such as goggles, ear protection, and gloves will be supplied and may be required in specific areas of the facility. The environment is fast-paced and operationally focused, with a strong emphasis on safety, proper material handling, and maintaining a clean, organized yard.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
