This position will support efforts associated with assembling Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) production hardware in a dynamic, fast-paced and technically challenging production environment.

This position will be full-time, on-site at our Rolling Meadows, IL. location.

This position is contingent upon funding/contract award, special access program, and acquiring and maintaining the necessary US Government security clearance per customers' requirements prior to start.

What you will get to do:

  • Process Development: Interpret new design drawings/CAD models and generate the first revision of Manufacturing Engineering Work Instructions, Routers, Tooling/Fixturing and Equipment specific to opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Design Feedback: Identify design improvements for manufacturability to reduce assembly complexity and costs. Engage with Design Engineering to successfully incorporate changes.
  • Support to Production: Coordinate with Design Engineering, Production technician, Project Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Quality organizations to build EOIR products and provide solutions to support nonconformance repair procedures.
  • Continuous improvement: Review of quality metrics to identify and lead efforts needed to implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, cycle time, and defects.
  • Project management: Leading and reporting day-to-day process engineering efforts, providing executive level presentation on current state of a project or on a plan to resolve a production level issue, performing earned value on non-recurring activities.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, communication and leadership skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and individual contributors.

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Engineer Process (Advanced EO):

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in equivalent fields and minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with opto-mechanical assembly and alignment, including related equipment and processes such as alignment telescopes, interferometers, optical potting, clean room protocols, optical inspection, lens manufacturing, etc.
  • Experience interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in managing small to medium scale projects or leading continuous improvement projects.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret Clearance with additional customer specified clearance prior to start.
  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications for the Principal Engineer Process (Advanced EO):

  • 5 or more years of experience in electronic hardware Manufacturing environment
  • Experience in creating process work instructions or developing/improving manufacturing processes
  • Experience performing earned value/CAM efforts.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in Capital Project Management
  • Experience with Manufacturing software planning tools such as SAP
  • Experience in facilities planning
  • Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action methods.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
