Job description

Title: Mechanical Product Design Engineer
Location: Palatine, IL
Hire Type: Long term contract with a strong potential to convert direct hire!
Salary: $75kโ€“ $88k/yr.

This Product Designer role is a hands-on engineering support position focused on creating and modifying 3D CAD models for electrical assemblies and components. You will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to support product design, troubleshooting, and manufacturing readiness.

Job Duties:
  • Create 3D models of new and existing assemblies and components using Solid Edge.
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies to meet functional requirements.
  • Troubleshoot production and shop floor design issues and develop solutions.
  • Support production teams by resolving design-related concerns and implementing updates.
  • Write and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain design documentation.
  • Build and modify prototype assemblies using hand and machine tools.
  • Source prototype components from internal model shops or external suppliers.
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and maintain accurate product structure data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and engineering.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in product design or 3D modeling-focused role.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solid Edge preferred).
  • Strong understanding of drafting principles and GD&T.
  • Basic knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with PLM systems for revision control.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
