Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Design and development of custom semiconductor modules. Analyze electrical, thermal, and mechanical module performance for demanding military and commercial applications.
SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Analyzes Computer models of products or systems either by hand or via appropriate computer software. (e.g. Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Q3D, SPICE, C or Visual Basic Programs, etc.)
  • Propose and/or develop value engineered solutions (during design or development phase) and make recommendations internally, or to the customer where appropriate.
  • Analyzes data to determine technical feasibility of product proposal.
  • Generates Computer models of products or systems using appropriate computer software and techniques. (e.g. 3D CAD systems, schematic capture systems, etc.)
  • Prepares or directs preparation of product layout, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Developing and executing product testing protocols and documenting results.
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing of prototype product.
  • Assist with selection and approval of vendors utilizing new material and/or processes to support product development and prototyping.
  • Selects vendors and negotiates prices for Engineering contract services (e.g. CAD / drafting services, FEA analysis, etc.), prototype and production parts
  • Assist with promoting the company and products to the customer.
  • Lead projects or project teams
  • Writes technical articles for publication.
  • Writes technical reports on work done.
  • Presents work orally to customers or other technical or non-technical audiences.

NECESSARY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Eager to learn new technologies and approaches; maintain individual skills keeping up to date with the latest manufacturing concepts and processes, industry trends, and technology advances.
  • Team player with willingness to cooperate with fellow engineers, upper management, technicians, and operators.

  • Interpret and apply applicable industry and government standards and specifications.
  • Interpret and apply Powerex and/or customer specifications for requirements related to product performance, materials, marking, packaging, etc., as they pertain to design and manufacturing of product.
  • Electrical Engineering experience or interest.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be able to read written English.
  • Must be able to clearly speak English.
  • Must be able to clearly write letters, emails, and work instructions in English

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Comfort with 3D CAD modeling software such as Solidworks or other.
  • Project Management
  • Experience in transferring new product to manufacturing.

FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
  • Makes frequent contacts with customers to clarify engineering data on orders
  • Makes frequent contact with other engineers and technicians to share engineering data and ideas
  • Makes regular contact with vendors to select vendors and negotiate prices for services or parts.
  • Makes occasional contacts with company representatives, manufacturing personnel, purchasing, etc. to furnish and gather data to accomplish the assigned duties.
  • As needed, willingness to travel to customers to aid in understanding or use of product.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS:
  • Gives technical direction to other engineers and technicians as required.
  • Directs vendors as required.
  • Directs Clerical personnel as required.

DIRECTION RECEIVED:
  • Works under general supervision
  • Independently plans and organizes work to arrive at a satisfactory solution

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Must have basic mathematical skills
  • Must be able to comprehend the basic mathematical structure underlying the various computer models.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1-2 years experience preferred but not required
