What is a Contract Revit Structural professional?

A Contract Revit Structural professional is a specialist who uses Autodesk Revit software to design, model, and document structural elements of buildings and infrastructure projects on a contractual or project basis. They work with architects, engineers, and contractors to create accurate 3D models and detailed drawings that represent a building's structural framework. Unlike full-time employees, contract professionals are typically hired for specific projects or time periods, offering flexibility to both employers and workers. Their expertise ensures that structures are safe, compliant with codes, and efficiently constructed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Revit Structural professional?

To excel as a Contract Revit Structural professional, you need a solid understanding of structural engineering principles, proficiency in Revit software, and experience with building information modeling (BIM) workflows, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree or certification. Familiarity with related tools like AutoCAD, Navisworks, and structural analysis software is often required, as well as knowledge of local building codes and standards. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accurate, efficient project delivery and seamless integration of structural designs within larger architectural and engineering projects.

What are some common challenges faced by Contract Revit Structural professionals when working with multiple project teams?

You will use Revit and structural analysis tools to develop detailed models and drawings, collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure that all designs are safe, efficient, and constructible. The position offers an office-based environment with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule after an initial onboarding period.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed structural designs and 3D models for industrial projects using Revit.
  • Produce, update, and maintain structural drawings, plans, and details for structural steel and concrete foundations.
  • Apply structural design principles to ensure the safety, integrity, and constructability of industrial structures.

  • Review design documents for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project standards, codes, and best practices.
  • Incorporate feedback from project teams and revise designs, models, and drawings as required.
  • Support the preparation of documentation for project submissions, permitting, and construction.
  • Maintain organized project files, models, and drawings in accordance with established company standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of structural design processes, tools, and best practices within the design team.
  • Manage multiple design tasks simultaneously while meeting project deadlines and quality expectations.

Essential Skills

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in modeling, drafting, and documentation.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Structural or civil design within industrial environments.
  • Previous design experience within civil, structural, engineering, or construction disciplines.
  • Familiarity with integrating structural models into broader project workflows and coordinated layouts.
  • Experience with concrete foundation design and structural steel design beyond basic coursework.
  • Previous industrial project experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with RISA or similar structural analysis software is a strong plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple design tasks concurrently and consistently meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to work in an office-based environment with the option for a hybrid schedule after an initial onboarding period.

Work Environment

The role begins as a fully in-office position for approximately the first one to two months to support onboarding, training, and close collaboration with the design team. After this initial period, the position can transition to a hybrid schedule. Team members typically work in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays and select one additional day on site each week, with flexibility to work remotely on other days as appropriate. The work environment is office-based and highly collaborative, centered around the use of design and analysis software such as Revit and RISA.
