Job Title: Structural EngineerJob Description

This role is for a licensed Structural Engineer who will serve as the internal structural engineering expert within a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering practice. You will support healthcare, institutional, and commercial building projects from concept through construction, providing leadership on structural systems and technical standards. This highly visible position offers the opportunity to shape and grow an in-house structural engineering practice while collaborating closely with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, consultants, and clients.

Responsibilities
  • Design and produce stamped structural construction documents for commercial, institutional, and healthcare projects.
  • Perform structural analysis, member sizing, and foundation design tailored to project requirements and site conditions.
  • Coordinate the structural scope within Revit/BIM environments and actively participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Collaborate with architects and project teams on structural system selection, bay spacing, floor-to-floor heights, and lateral system strategies.
  • Prepare structural specifications and review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction administration.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical consultants to incorporate foundation recommendations and soil-bearing assumptions into design.
  • Conduct site visits and field observations to verify compliance with construction documents and design intent.
  • Partner with architects, MEP engineers, consultants, contractors, and clients throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal preparation and client presentations.
  • Establish structural standards, specifications, details, and best practices as the firm’s engineering capabilities continue to grow.
  • Serve as a technical resource and internal structural authority throughout all phases of project delivery.
Essential Skills
  • Licensed Structural Engineer with 7+ years of experience designing commercial, healthcare, and institutional facilities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with Michigan PE or eligibility for reciprocity.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit for structural modeling and coordination.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for structural drafting and documentation.
  • Experience using structural analysis software such as RISA, RAM, ETABS, or equivalent tools.
  • Demonstrated experience producing stamped construction documents and performing structural analysis and member sizing.
  • Experience coordinating closely with architects and MEP teams on integrated building designs.
  • Experience supporting projects through construction administration, including responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and standards relevant to structural engineering.
  • Experience with steel, concrete, masonry, light-gauge, and heavy timber structures.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
  • Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Healthcare or institutional project experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience reviewing RFIs, shop drawings, and submittals during construction.
  • Experience with concrete design, steel design, and masonry design.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and coordination within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to help develop and refine structural standards, details, and best practices for a growing in-house engineering group.
  • Interest in contributing to business development efforts through proposals and client presentations.
  • Comfort serving as a technical resource and internal authority on structural engineering matters.
Work Environment

The role operates within a hybrid work model, with four days in-person and one day working from home each week. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering team based in Royal Oak, Michigan, collaborating closely with architects, MEP professionals, consultants, contractors, and clients.
