What is a contract remote frontend developer?

A Contract Remote Frontend Developer is a professional who specializes in building and maintaining the user interface of websites or web applications on a contractual basis, while working remotely. They use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (such as React, Angular, or Vue.js) to create responsive and interactive user experiences. Unlike full-time employees, contract developers are typically hired for specific projects or time periods, providing flexibility for both the developer and the hiring company. Working remotely means they can perform their job from anywhere with a reliable internet connection.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract remote frontend developer?

To thrive as a Contract Remote Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Vue.js, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, build tools such as Webpack, and collaborative platforms like Jira or Slack is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for succeeding in a remote, contract-based environment. These competencies ensure timely delivery of high-quality, user-friendly web interfaces while maintaining effective collaboration with distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by contract remote frontend developers, and how can they be addressed?

Contract remote frontend developers often encounter challenges such as managing time across multiple projects, ensuring clear communication with diverse teams, and keeping up with rapidly evolving frontend technologies. To address these, it's important to establish regular check-ins with project stakeholders, use collaboration tools effectively, and set clear expectations around deliverables and timelines. Senior Software Engineer (Frontend) (Remote)

Field Materials

Job description

We are a young startup with a bold vision to become the commerce and financial technology backbone of construction - one of the world's largest industries. Founded by serial entrepreneurs with exits to Fortune 500 companies (including Paypal), Field Materials has partnered with prominent VC funds in Silicon Valley to build a world class team with a mission to digitize and democratize construction material purchasing. This is a unique opportunity to join at the ground level an industry transforming company.

Our company is the people we hire. We aspire to build a team of smart, high-caliber players that inspire each other to excel yet are not afraid to leave egos behind, roll up their sleeves and fix what doesn't work. We don't believe in micromanagement and trust our team to take full ownership of their responsibilities. We believe in transparency as a way to build trust, break communication barriers, and align towards a common goal. Finally, we want our people to stay and grow with the company and the only way to achieve this is by providing them with above-market-rate compensation, premier benefits, and generous stock options.

We're looking for a Frontend Engineer with experience building web and mobile interfaces and interactive web/mobile components. This is the job for someone that cares about delivering best-in-class products and experiences - not features and is excited about working on the modern stack of technologies (GraphQL, React, React Native).

About you:

  • You are excited about startups and new products
  • You enjoy building systems from the ground up
  • You have passion for user experience and design and an understanding of front-end architecture
  • You realize that products are built iteratively and specs evolve with customer feedback
  • You care about elegant code design: well architected code is easier to understand, refactor, evolve, and inherit
  • You care about products that have massive economic impact and have interest in FinTech

What we look for:

  • 3+ years of experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • 1+ years of work experience with a JavaScript frontend framework, preferably React
  • Knowledge of (and a passion for) current trends and best practices in front-end architecture, including performance, accessibility, security and usability
  • Eye for design, product details, and polish
  • BS (or higher) in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with server-side development is a plus
  • Experience with GraphQL is a plus

Benefits

  • Flexible time off
  • Equity awards (after working for at least 3 month)
  • Gym reimbursement
  • Annual personal development fund
  • Swanky new work laptop
  • Work headphones reimbursement
  • Regular offsites at fun locations
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
