Contract Remote Fire Protection Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Remote Fire Protection Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Remote Fire Protection Engineer, you need expertise in fire protection engineering principles, relevant codes (such as NFPA and IBC), and a degree in engineering, often supported by a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, hydraulic calculation software, and remote collaboration tools is typically required. Strong project management, written communication, and problem-solving skills help you excel, especially when working independently or with dispersed teams. These abilities ensure compliant, efficient fire protection designs and seamless project delivery in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Contract Remote Fire Protection Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Contract Remote Fire Protection Engineers often face challenges related to communication and coordination with on-site teams, as well as staying updated on regional codes and standards. Ensuring clear, regular communication through video calls and project management tools can help bridge the gap caused by remote work. Additionally, proactively requesting documentation and maintaining an organized digital reference library can help stay current with jurisdictional requirements. Building strong, collaborative relationships with local architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies is also essential for project success.

What is a Contract Remote Fire Protection Engineer?

A Contract Remote Fire Protection Engineer is a professional who designs, evaluates, and implements fire safety systems for buildings or projects while working on a contract basis, typically from a remote location. Their responsibilities include ensuring compliance with fire codes, conducting risk assessments, and creating fire protection plans. They may work with architects, builders, and other engineers to develop solutions that safeguard people and property from fire hazards. This role allows for flexible work arrangements and may involve collaborating with clients across different regions. Contract remote positions are common in industries where specialized expertise is needed for specific projects.

Is there a high demand for fire protection engineers?

Fire protection engineers are in steady demand due to the need for safety standards in construction, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects. The role often requires specialized knowledge of codes, fire suppression systems, and certifications, and employment opportunities are expected to grow as safety regulations become more stringent.

Leveraging Ford's century of manufacturing excellence and world-class battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology, Ford Energy designs, manufactures, and services grid-scale and commercial DC battery energy storage systems (BESS). Ford Energy is uniquely positioned to capture the growing demand for reliable, US-built energy storage systems. We are not just building batteries; we are building the infrastructure for the next generation of the American grid.

At Ford Energy, you have the backing of an industrial manufacturing powerhouse with the agility of a dedicated energy startup offering industry leading technology. We offer a competitive compensation package including performance-based bonuses, Ford vehicle discounts, and the opportunity to shape the energy strategy of one of the world's most iconic brands.

In this position...

The Technical Solutions Engineer will serve as the Technical Solution Lead for the Ford Energy sales team and our customers. This role is critical in translating complex customer requirements into optimized BESS configurations and driving disciplined execution across the technical solution process. You will be responsible for driving commercial accountability through technical financial modeling and overseeing system sizing, guiding performance modeling, and coordinating technical documentation and certification. The Technical Solutions Engineer will bridge the gap between engineering and sales by ensuring all technical solutions are "bankable," safety-compliant, and commercially viable.
ย

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical solutions, applications engineering, systems engineering, or project engineering within the energy sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical contract negotiation and financial modeling for large-scale energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of power systems, batteries, and battery management systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leaders, technical teams, and customers.

Even better, you may have...

  • Direct experience with stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and familiarity with UL 9540A and NFPA 855 standards.
  • Working knowledge of wholesale electricity markets and grid operations (e.g., ERCOT, CAISO, PJM).
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with high-voltage safety standards and industrial control protocols.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment within a larger corporate structure.
  • Solution-oriented leader who can balance technical rigor with commercial urgency.
  • Strategic thinker capable of translating complex customer needs into "bankable" technical configurations.
  • Strong communicator able to bridge the gap between technical engineering requirements and operational customer needs.
  • Leadership Attributes
    • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple project configurations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Location & Travel
    • Location & Travel Southeast Michigan or Glendale, KY preferred. Remote arrangements will be considered for candidates with specialized expertise. Role requires domestic travel as needed
    • Travel Expectations: This role requires travel to customer sites and project locations as needed to support technical solutions and site assessments.
