Job Summary/Purpose

Core Design Engineers are responsible for engineering activities to provide safe, reliable, and predictable core designs, while improving the efficiency and robustness of our designs. In doing so, the position will support Entergy’s nuclear fleet in our mission to provide clean, reliable, and sustainable nuclear energy safely and efficiently.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage core reload projects including activities associated with the design and licensing of the core, fabrication and transportation of fuel, and contract management.
  • Collaborate on fuel and core designs, including strategic fuel design evaluations, to lead the industry in advanced technologies for improved fuel performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain detailed core models to support site reactor engineering and other plant functions in safely and reliably operating our nuclear fleet.
  • Provide reactor physics and fuel criticality expertise to support the analytical and design bases on which each plant was licensed and provide technical oversight of contracted analyses.
  • Employ robust designs to ensure that fuel is operated in a safe and reliable manner in accordance with plant design and licensing basis, within design limits, and with sustainable, failure-free performance.
  • Support reload and startup activities by ensuring engineering work is performed with quality and predictability; programs are implemented per defined standards; fleet lessons learned are captured and discussed as part of continuous learning culture; and industry best practices are implemented.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Minimum education required of the position:

  • B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related discipline (Physical Sciences) with equivalent experience.
  • Desired: Master of Science degree in engineering or business administration


Minimum experience required of the position:

  • Engineer I: 0+ years of engineering
  • Engineer II: 2+ years of experience (1year with a M.S.)
  • Engineer III: 4+ years of experience
  • Senior Engineer: 6+ years of experience (5+ years with PE)
  • Desired: Experience in Reactor Engineering, Safety Analysis, Fuel Engineering, or other Engineering Discipline.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • Technical proficiency in nuclear fuel management.
  • Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation.
  • Outstanding communication, conflict management, and change management skills.
  • Proficiency with current computer business applications.
  • Desired: Experience with nuclear design software packages (CASMO/SIMULATE, SCALE, MCNP, etc.).
  • Desired: Experience with programming languages (Python, FORTRAN, Visual Basic, etc.) and shell scripting in UNIX/LINUX environments.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position:

  • Desired: Professional Engineering license (Nuclear discipline preferred).
