Job Title: Field Data Center Technician (L1)
Job Type: Contract
Locations: Irvine, CA
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Key Requirement: Strong experience with Qualys installation and deployment. Position Overview We are seeking Field Data Center Technicians (L1) to support engineering and R&D lab environments. This role involves hands-on data center operations, hardware installation, rack and stack activities, inventory management, troubleshooting, and general lab support. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced data center environment and performing physical tasks with minimal supervision. Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain servers, networking equipment, and lab hardware. Perform rack and stack activities, including cabling and hardware deployments. Support Qualys installation and related infrastructure activities. Troubleshoot server, hardware, network connectivity, and power-related issues. Assist with hardware testing, diagnostics, and component replacement. Remove and decommission end-of-life equipment from lab environments. Maintain accurate documentation of hardware setups, inventory, and procedures. Support asset tracking and inventory management activities. Troubleshoot network switches, cabling, and PDU-related issues. Coordinate with remote support teams to resolve infrastructure and lab issues. Manage shipping, receiving, and equipment tracking processes. Maintain lab organization, cleanliness, and general housekeeping standards. Follow established operational procedures and safety guidelines. Required Skills & Qualifications 5+ years of experience in data center operations, engineering labs, or infrastructure support environments. Strong hands-on experience with server hardware installation, rack/stack, and cabling. Experience with Qualys deployment and installation. Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, and routing. Experience with Linux system administration and hardware troubleshooting. Familiarity with Windows Server environments. Experience troubleshooting hardware, network, and power infrastructure issues. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work within data center environments. Ability to rack-mount servers and install associated cabling. Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to work onsite full-time and support occasional extended hours as needed. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or other automation/configuration management tools. Exposure to inventory management systems and asset tracking tools. Knowledge of Python, PHP, or MySQL is a plus. Previous experience supporting R&D, engineering, or product labs.
