Job Description An established organization in a highly regulated industry is seeking a Senior Platform & Security Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team on a contract basis. This individual will play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting secure cloud infrastructure while helping ensure continuity across critical platform initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a highly independent engineer with deep AWS and Infrastructure as Code expertise, strong Kubernetes and containerization experience, and a passion for technology. This person should be comfortable taking ownership of complex technical problems, driving solutions with minimal supervision, and leveraging modern AI-assisted development tools while maintaining rigorous security and quality standards.

  • 10+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Cloud Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Extensive hands-on experience supporting enterprise production workloads in AWS
  • Advanced expertise with Terraform and/or OpenTofu
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience
  • Deep Kubernetes deployment, administration, support, and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with Docker and/or Podman container technologies
  • Strong Python and Bash scripting skills
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and Jenkins
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible and Packer
  • Strong understanding of Linux systems administration
  • Experience implementing security controls including:
    • System hardening
    • Vulnerability management
    • Secrets management
    • Least-privilege access models
    • Logging and monitoring
    • Secure-by-default infrastructure patterns
  • Experience creating, testing, reviewing, and maintaining production-quality infrastructure code
  • Experience developing automated testing for infrastructure platforms and deployments
  • Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership from requirements through production deployment
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, or similar technologies
  • Ability to validate AI-generated solutions through testing, code review, security controls, and quality gates

  • Experience within financial services or other highly regulated industries
  • Experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, or similar compliance frameworks
  • Experience with Terraform testing frameworks such as Terratest

  • Experience with observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, ELK/OpenSearch, or Datadog

What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable AWS infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu
  • Build and support cloud platform services across networking, identity, compute, storage, and Kubernetes environments
  • Create and enhance automation tools and platform utilities using Python and Bash
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitHub and Jenkins
  • Build and execute automated Infrastructure as Code testing and validation processes
  • Implement container security best practices across Kubernetes, Docker, and Podman environments
  • Configure cloud-native services including logging, monitoring, security scanning, and secrets management
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, troubleshooting, and engineering standards development
  • Partner with security, risk, and governance teams to support compliance and audit requirements
  • Monitor system reliability, security posture, and platform performance
  • Produce technical documentation, operational runbooks, and implementation guides
  • Independently drive engineering work from requirements gathering through deployment and handoff
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity while maintaining strong security and testing standards
  • Support ongoing platform modernization and cloud engineering initiatives
