Medical Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Med/Psych RN)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA
Job Type: Full-Time
Work Setting: Onsite – MedSurg/Tele & Behavioral Health
Shifts: 12-hour shifts (Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM | Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Salary: USD 83000 - 108000

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Med/Psych RN) to join a multidisciplinary healthcare team in Chicago. This role is ideal for nurses who are passionate about delivering integrated care to patients with both medical and psychiatric needs in an acute care setting.

In this position, you will provide patient-centered care to individuals with complex, high-acuity conditions while collaborating closely with physicians, behavioral health specialists, and allied health professionals to ensure safe, effective, and holistic treatment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process, critical thinking, and professional judgment

  • Assess, monitor, and manage patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions

  • Administer medications, including psychotropic and medical treatments, and monitor patient responses

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, social workers, and psychologists

  • Provide crisis intervention and behavioral support as needed

  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, coping strategies, and discharge planning

  • Participate in patient rounds, care planning, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards, safety protocols, and unit-specific competencies

Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (required)

  • BSN or enrollment in a BSN program (preferred)

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois

  • Minimum 2–3 years of combined Med-Surg and Psychiatric nursing experience

  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention & Intervention) certification (required)

  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications and medical interactions

  • Ability to work rotating shifts and perform physical patient care duties
