Job description

Overview

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking a highly detailed Project Controls Specialist in St. Joseph, MO to join our team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Project Controls Manager and project teams with cost forecasting, budget management, cash flow tracking, and project performance reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor and analyze project costs, production quantities, labor productivity, and key performance metrics to identify trends and support decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain project controls dashboards, reporting tools, and performance metrics to provide timely and accurate project visibility.
  • Assist with project planning, progress tracking, schedule updates, and operational reviews to support successful project execution.
  • Prepare and distribute project, division, and executive-level reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
  • Support joint venture (JV) projects through reporting, documentation management, meeting preparation, and contract compliance tracking.
  • Collaborate with field operations, project management, estimating, and finance teams to drive project controls best practices, data standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel:

  • Some nationwide travel required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction project controls, data analysis, estimating, finance, or project management support.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and advanced data analysis techniques.
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, cost controls, forecasting, and operational reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence and visualization tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with Procore, CMiC, WinEst, SAP, EcoSys, or similar construction/project management platforms is a bonus.
  • Experience supporting industrial, commercial, infrastructure, or heavy civil construction projects preferred.

  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
