Contract Prn Rn information

What is a Contract PRN RN?

A Contract PRN RN (as-needed Registered Nurse) is a nurse who works on a contractual basis, typically filling in shifts as required by healthcare facilities. Unlike full-time or part-time staff, PRN nurses have a flexible schedule and may work in various settings, such as hospitals, clinics, or long-term care facilities. They are usually hired for short-term needs, such as covering staff shortages or seasonal demand. Contract PRN RNs may earn a higher hourly wage but typically do not receive benefits like full-time employees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Contract PRN RN position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Contract PRN RN, you must possess current RN licensure, strong clinical assessment abilities, and a solid understanding of medical procedures, often complemented by recent acute care experience. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and up-to-date certifications such as BLS or ACLS are commonly required. Excellent time management, adaptability to new environments, and clear communication enable success in this flexible, on-demand role. These skills ensure you can provide high-quality patient care while effectively integrating into various healthcare teams on short notice.

What are the typical scheduling and work expectations for a Contract PRN RN position?

Contract PRN RNs are usually hired to fill staffing gaps on an as-needed basis, which means shifts can vary widely in length, frequency, and timing. Flexibility is essential, as assignments may be scheduled with short notice, including nights, weekends, or holidays, depending on facility needs. Work environments can range from hospitals and clinics to long-term care settings, and you may work with different teams each shift. While this arrangement provides the opportunity to gain diverse experience and maintain a flexible work-life balance, it also requires adaptability and strong self-motivation.

Job description

PRN Registered Nurse (RN) - Onsite Employee Health & Safety (First and Second Shift Available)
About Ramp Health
Since 2002, Ramp Health has been a leader in preventive health, partnering with organizations nationwide to deliver accessible, high-quality onsite wellness and occupational health services. Our mission is to support healthier workplaces by providing convenient care where people need it most.
We are seeking PRN Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our onsite employee health team in Michigan. These positions offer flexible, as-needed scheduling on both first and second shift, making them ideal for nurses who enjoy variety, autonomy, and meaningful impact in their day-to-day work.
About the Role
As a PRN RN with Ramp Health, you will play a central role in promoting workplace wellness, safety, and readiness. You'll collaborate closely with site leadership, HR partners, and safety teams to deliver first aid, health assessments, and preventive services that support employee well-being and productivity.
This position is best suited for a nurse who enjoys a mix of clinical care, relationship building, and problem solving-someone comfortable working independently and engaging directly with employees in a fast-paced onsite environment.
Key Responsibilities
First Aid and Clinical Support
  • Assess and treat work-related injuries or illnesses with proper documentation
  • Provide immediate first aid and coordinate external care when needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked clinic environment
  • Assist with return-to-work evaluations and workers' compensation coordination

Health Screenings and Assessments
  • Conduct routine health screenings including vitals, biometric checks, and wellness assessments
  • Complete pre-employment evaluations and drug testing
  • Perform specimen collections following established protocols

Regulatory and Compliance Support
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, FMLA, and workplace health regulations
  • Support case management, accommodation requests, and health reporting

Health Education and Wellness
  • Promote healthy lifestyle habits and provide accessible health education
  • Engage employees in wellness initiatives and preventive care conversations

Emergency Response
  • Serve as an onsite responder for medical emergencies
  • Provide CPR and First Aid support and ensure readiness of emergency supplies

Ergonomics and Workplace Safety
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and recommend adjustments to reduce injury risk
  • Collaborate with leadership and safety teams to proactively address workplace hazards

Qualifications
  • Active RN license in the state of Michigan (required)
  • Minimum two years of experience in Family Health, General Practice, or Occupational Health
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable adapting to varying workplace needs and environments

Preferred
  • Experience in occupational health or employee wellness programs
  • Knowledge of disability management and return-to-work processes
  • Venipuncture and fit testing experience

Compensation
  • $46/hour
  • PRN scheduling flexibility with first and second shift opportunities
  • Background check and drug screen required

Join Ramp Health and help bring impactful, accessible healthcare directly to the workplace. Your expertise helps create safer, healthier environments-one shift at a time.
