Job description

Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bid Preparation
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs for commercial and industrial electrical projects.
  • Develop accurate cost estimates and competitive bid proposals.
  • Analyze project requirements and identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare scope clarifications, exclusions, and assumptions for bid submissions.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination:
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Negotiate pricing and ensure competitive procurement strategies.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain current market pricing.

Project Support:
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors during preconstruction planning.
  • Assist with value engineering recommendations and cost-saving alternatives.
  • Support project teams with budgeting, cost tracking, and estimating updates throughout project execution.
  • Prepare pricing for change orders, revisions, and additional scope requests.

Process Improvement:
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost records, and pricing libraries.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs.
  • Monitor market trends, material pricing, and labor costs to improve estimate accuracy.

Required Qualifications:
Experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of electrical estimating experience in commercial and/or industrial construction.
  • Proven experience preparing detailed estimates for electrical projects from concept through bid submission.
  • Experience estimating projects involving commercial buildings, industrial facilities, manufacturing environments, food-processing facilities, or similar complex construction projects is highly preferred.

Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and construction regulations.

Software & Technology:
  • Experience with electrical estimating software and digital takeoff platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with project management and construction management software is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in design-build electrical construction.
  • Experience with industrial controls, automation systems, or process facilities.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy and solar electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of medium-voltage electrical installations.
  • Electrical field experience as an electrician, foreman, or project engineer is highly desirable.
