Job Title: HMC / VMC Setup Operator
Duration: 3 Months Contract-to-Hire
Location: Bloomington, IL 61704
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced HMC / VMC Setup Operator to join our manufacturing team in Bloomington, IL. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC Turning or Horizontal/Vertical Machining Centers independently. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to ensure high-quality production standards. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Independently set up and operate CNC Turning Machines and HMC/VMC machines
Read and interpret process sheets, blueprints, and part sketches to determine machining requirements
Mount workpieces using chucks, fixtures, or centers as required
Start and monitor machining operations, ensuring proper feed rates, speeds, and dimensional accuracy
Review machine control panel displays and compare with process sheets for accuracy
Make tooling and size offset adjustments as needed
Read and understand G/M codes for CNC operations
Perform first article inspection and ongoing quality checks during production
Ensure all produced parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards
Organize materials and prepare for upcoming jobs during machine cycles
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including machines and floor areas
Ensure workstation readiness at the start of each shift
Accurately complete timecards, process sheets, tub cards, and reject documentation
Identify, tag, and segregate rejected or scrap materials appropriately
Complete machine setups independently within assigned timelines
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in CNC setup and operation (HMC/VMC or CNC Turning)
Ability to independently perform machine setups
Strong understanding of blueprints, process sheets, and machining specifications
Knowledge of G/M codes and CNC machine controls
Experience with tooling offsets and machine adjustments
Strong attention to detail and quality inspection practices
Ability to perform first article inspection
Good documentation and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
