A Brief Summary of This Position:

This position is responsible for providing technical support and project management on a variety of public and private sector groundwater compliance, permitting and water supply projects. The incumbent will be responsible for providing planning input, field support, data evaluation, and project management. We support corporate agricultural operations, industrial facilities, mining, and public agency/government projects. The Project Geologist will work closely with other Geologists, Engineers and Soil Scientists under the technical guidance of the Managing Geologist, and administrative oversight of their manager, to develop and complete groundwater projects. This position assists with completing project deliverables that meet contract requirements, including work plans, monitoring plans, permit applications, well designs and specifications, technical reports, field documentation (including field notes, boring logs, well construction documentation). The incumbent will enjoy interacting with a diverse client base; be presented with a wide variety of challenging work; have opportunities to apply innovative and creative solutions; and become a part of a strong team-oriented organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and participate in groundwater quality monitoring projects – prepare monitoring plans, monitoring well installations, data collection/management/evaluation, and reporting;
  • Provide technical support to groundwater supply projects –exploratory drilling, well/wellfield design, borehole visual/geophysical logging, well construction observation, well performance evaluations, aquifer pumping tests, well siting and designs, and permitting;
  • Contribute and/or prepare proposals for new contracts (scoping, scheduling, budgeting);
  • Prepare and communicate project progress, exceptions and opportunities to team members, management and clients;
  • Continuously strive to improve team performance on quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction metrics;
  • Maintain an awareness of market tends and opportunities for Valley services and products to manage and conserve groundwater resources to feed the world;
  • Develop and support client relationships to ensure satisfaction and identify business opportunities;
  • Conduct field work, often independently in accordance with project-specific health and safety plans, at client project sites;
  • Work in a matrix organization with marketing, sales, accounting, and operations;
  • This position reports to their Manager and does not have any direct reports; and
  • This role requires up to 25% travel (domestic), including overnight stays

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelors with 3+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 5+ years relevant experience or 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in geology, hydrogeology, or other relevant field
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Self-starter with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Clearly communicate technical information to colleagues, clients and regulators
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple and simultaneous priorities

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, earth sciences, environmental engineering, or other relevant field
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license issued by a State Board with ability to obtain reciprocity in other states
  • Completion of a Certified Project Management Course with professional designation
  • Work experience in an environmental consulting firm
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
  • MSHA Part 48 training

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

The majority of the principle duties are performed in an office environment with approximately 20% working in a field environment at project sites on uneven and rough terrain.  The work is sometimes performed outside in weather conditions, including heat, cold, and temperature swings, for extended periods of time.  While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may work near heavy equipment and moving mechanical parts.  Most of the physical effort is due to travel and work performed outside at project work sites and may require an overnight stay in a hotel room. The incumbent frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, type, draw, and design.  Reaching hands and arms above shoulder height while working in the office or out in a field may be required. The employee is occasionally required to stand for extended periods. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Incumbent must have a valid US driver’s license and be willing to drive to the various project sites. Minimum base salary of $61,200 and max of $95,000.
