What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Next.js Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Next.js Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, and Next.js, along with a solid understanding of web development fundamentals and experience in delivering client projects. Familiarity with tools like Git, RESTful APIs, Vercel, and related front-end technologies, as well as a proven portfolio or certifications, is often expected. Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills help you adapt to client needs and collaborate effectively in remote or cross-functional teams. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality, scalable web applications on time and meeting client expectations in a fast-paced contract environment.

What are Contract Next.js Developers?

Contract Next.js Developers are software engineers who specialize in building web applications using the Next.js framework on a contract basis. They are typically hired for specific projects or timeframes to develop, maintain, or enhance web applications, often focusing on server-side rendering, static site generation, and optimizing React applications. These developers are skilled in JavaScript, React, and related web technologies, and may work remotely or onsite depending on the client’s needs. Their contract status means they are not permanent employees but are engaged for particular tasks or durations.

What are some common challenges faced by Contract Next.js Developers when joining new projects?

Contract Next.js Developers often encounter challenges such as quickly understanding existing codebases, adapting to diverse development standards, and integrating their work with remote or cross-functional teams. Since contract roles typically have shorter onboarding periods, developers must rapidly familiarize themselves with project requirements, deployment processes, and the team's workflow tools. Proactive communication and strong problem-solving skills are essential to ensure smooth collaboration and timely delivery of features.

Job description

We're redefining how robots are deployed. Our platform enables users to simulate, test, and optimize entire robotic systems in parallel. By removing the barriers that have kept advanced robotics out of reach for all but the largest players, we're ushering in a new era of manufacturing—one where mass reshoring is not only viable, but inevitable.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Full-stack Engineer to join our team in a full-time position. Reporting to the Director of Platforms, you will work on projects that require expertise in both front-end and back-end development, specifically using React, Next.js, and AWS services. Your role will involve developing, implementing, and maintaining full-stack web applications with a focus on scalable multi-tenant distributed systems architecture.

  • Help build a distributed cloud platform that powers robotic simulation, deployment, and analytics workflows across customer environments.
  • Collaborate with product and UX to break down ambiguous problems and deliver intuitive and performant user experiences for complex technical workflows.
  • Contribute to the technical design for major platform features and services with consideration for security, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer productivity.
  • Design and implement backend application services, APIs, and asynchronous workflows that power core platform functionality.
  • Improve observability, monitoring, analytics, and operational tooling across the platform.
  • Mentor other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.
  • Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks proactively.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, deployment practices, and system architecture evolution.
  • Contribute to frontend architecture and implementation using React and Next.js.

Requirements

Requirements
  • 5+ years building and operating production full-stack or backend-heavy applications in collaborative engineering environments.
  • All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing scalable backend services, APIs, and data models for production systems.
  • Experience operating cloud-native systems in AWS, including observability, monitoring, deployment workflows, and reliability considerations.
  • Experience contributing to architectural decisions and evaluating tradeoffs around scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Strong understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases, including indexing, query optimization, schema evolution, and data access patterns.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug complex production issues across distributed systems and frontend/backend boundaries.
  • Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and collaborative development practices.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and React, with experience working within large multi-contributor codebases.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (CDK, Terraform) and CI/CD workflows.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems concepts such as concurrency, retries, consistency, and fault tolerance.
Preferred
  • Experience working in environments subject to security or compliance requirements such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar standards.
  • Experience integrating with enterprise identity platforms using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, or SCIM.
  • Experience with role-based or attribute-based access control systems for multi-tenant applications.
  • Experience with multi-cloud or cloud-agnostic architectural patterns

Benefits

  • Competitive Healthcare Coverage
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Commuting Expenses Covered
  • Telecommunications Stipend
  • 401k Match
  • HSA Employer Contribution
