Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Ensure all shipyard safety procedures, rules, and regulations are followed and met, including direct design of installation design.
  • Support other engineers, provide training, and share know‑how.
  • Lead electrical installation and outfitting design activities for assigned vessel areas or systems.
  • Review basic and detail design packages to confirm completeness, constructability, and compliance with shipyard standards, contract requirements, and regulatory rules (Class, USCG, IMO).
  • Develop and oversee production work packages, including installation drawings, fabrication drawings, installation standards, cable routing documentation, material lists, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Coordinate installation design deliverables with Planning, Production, Quality, and Procurement to support efficient vessel construction.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction by troubleshooting installation issues, resolving production questions, and issuing corrective guidance.
  • Develop and process Design Change Notices (DCNs) and/or Engineering Design Notices(ECN) to implement corrections, improvements, or field-driven modifications.
  • Interface with design subcontractors and vendors to ensure installation requirements are clearly defined, documented, and executed.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities, including coordination with Test Engineering, Owner representatives, and Class inspectors.
  • Maintain and monitor documentation within the shipyard Documentation Control System (DCS).
  • Track material status and support logistics, sequencing, and timing of installation activities.
  • Propose and implement technical and process improvements to enhance installation efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Travel domestically and internationally, as required, to support vendor coordination, inspections, or design resolution activities.
  • Any tasks required in relation to on-site support.
  • Cable schedule management, onboard survey.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position may provide technical leadership and coordination to designers and junior engineers within the outfitting team, but does not have direct personnel management responsibility.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred, however, candidates with a technical diploma and 7-10+ years’ experience in ship design and/or construction may also be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in shipbuilding, system design, or manufacturing.
  • Experience with electrical system or electrical design and construction.
  • Experience with electrical outfitting, cable routing, equipment foundations, and shipboard installation practices.
  • Strong knowledge of basic and detail ship design process and modern shipbuilding methods.
  • Experience supporting production and resolving field installation issues.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and CAD systems, such as AutoCAD, Aveva Marine(AM).
  • Knowledge and experience concerning basic and detail ship design.
  • Knowledge and experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices.
  • Experience with Classification Society Rules for New Construction, IMO Regulations, and US Coast Guard Requirements as well as International experience or familiarity with European and/or Asian Shipbuilding Standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be executed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
