Job description

Job purpose

Transports company trucks and equipment between company shops, dealerships, and outside repair vendors on an on-call, as-needed basis, and picks up parts as needed, supporting shop operations when equipment must be moved for warranty work, outsourced repairs, or overflow preventative maintenance.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Transport company trucks and equipment to and from dealerships, repair facilities, and vendor locations as needed.
  • Pick up parts from vendors and suppliers as needed to support shop operations.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on all vehicles operated.
  • Coordinate pick-up and drop-off timing with shop personnel.
  • Safely operate company vehicles in compliance with all DOT regulations and company safety policies.
  • Communicate any vehicle concerns or mechanical issues to the maintenance team.
  • Assist with other transportation-related tasks as needed.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality when accepting assignments.

Schedule

This position is on-call and as-needed. There is no guaranteed schedule or minimum number of hours. Transportation needs vary based on equipment repairs, warranty work, preventative maintenance schedules, and operational demands.

Most transports are scheduled during early morning hours, typically beginning around 5:00–5:30 a.m., or during other non-peak times to minimize disruption to shop operations. Individuals are not expected to accept every request but should be available to work when their schedule allows.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A or Class B required to legally transport company trucks and equipment.
  • Clean driving record; must pass an MVR report.
  • Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles of varying size and configuration.
  • Dependable and punctual, with flexibility to accept short-notice assignments.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Previous commercial driving experience preferred.
  • Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test and agree to company drug-free workplace policies.

Safety in the Workplace

  • Employees should take reasonable care of their health and safety no matter where they are or what they are doing. This is especially true in the workplace, where your actions can affect both your own safety and that of others. Your cooperation in making sure you receive the proper training for your job, understand and follow the company’s health and safety policies, as well as reporting any unsafe conditions is required.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to lift/move at least 50 lbs.
  • Sitting for extended periods while driving.
  • Repeated entering and exiting of truck cabs throughout the day.

Direct reports

  • Non-supervisory position.
