Job description

Description

HyerTek is a federal technology consulting firm delivering secure Microsoft-based enterprise solutions, data analytics, and modernization services to government agencies. With deep expertise across Microsoft Dynamics, Power Platform, Power BI, and secure federal IT delivery, we help agencies modernize mission-critical systems and improve operational performance.

HyerTek is hiring an Azure Cloud Engineer to design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure that supports our federal engagements. You will provision and manage Azure environments, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deploy and integrate platform services, and partner with development and security teams to deliver secure, performant, well-architected solutions for government customers.

This is a hands-on, generalist role. On the infrastructure and DevOps side, you will own infrastructure-as-code, networking, identity, and automation. On the application platform side, you will deploy and integrate Azure services - App Service, Functions, AKS, API Management, and the data and integration services that sit alongside them - to support the applications our delivery teams build. You will work directly with developers, architects, and security engineers, embedded with delivery teams rather than sitting in a separate platform organization. Your work will go to federal customers, and the reliability and security of what you build will directly shape their experience with HyerTek.

Location: Candidate preference is for those located in the Washington, DC, metro region.

Requirements

  • Design, provision, and manage Azure environments - subscriptions, resource groups, networking, identity, and policy - across development, test, and production tiers.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform; treat infrastructure as a versioned, peer-reviewed deliverable.
  • Build and operate CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for application and infrastructure delivery.
  • Deploy and integrate Azure platform services - App Service, Functions, AKS, API Management, Service Bus, Logic Apps, and supporting data services.
  • Configure and manage Entra ID (Azure AD), conditional access, managed identities, and role-based access control across workloads. Implement networking - VNets, NSGs, private endpoints, ExpressRoute, hub-and-spoke topologies - aligned to federal security requirements.
  • Operate and tune Azure environments for cost, performance, and reliability; build dashboards and alerting in Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
  • Partner with security engineers to apply Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, and policy-as-code controls; remediate findings and support audit activities.
  • Collaborate with developers and architects to design well-architected solutions, applying the Azure Well-Architected Framework principles.
  • Document architectures, runbooks, and as-built records suitable for customer handoff.
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvement across managed environments.
  • Stay current on Azure service evolution and bring relevant capabilities into delivery patterns.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on Azure engineering experience across infrastructure, DevOps, and platform services.
  • Demonstrated experience with infrastructure-as-code (Bicep, ARM, or Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions).
  • Working knowledge of Azure networking, identity (Entra ID), and core platform services (App Service, Functions, AKS, Storage, Key Vault).
  • Scripting proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and operational tooling.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Comfort working independently across multiple concurrent engagements.

U.S. Security Clearance Requirements

U.S. Citizenship, Eligible for a DoD Secret clearance required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure Government, GCC, or GCC High environments and the architectural constraints they impose.
  • Familiarity with DoD IL4/IL5 workloads or FedRAMP-aligned environments.
  • Experience integrating with Microsoft 365, Power Platform, or Dynamics 365 from an infrastructure perspective.
  • Microsoft certifications: AZ-104 (Administrator), AZ-204 (Developer), AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert), or AZ-305 (Solutions Architect Expert).
  • Familiarity with the Azure Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework.

HyerTek offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Professional development and certification support
