Position: Middle School Math Teacher
Reports To: Principal
Job Description:
The educator is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student achievement and growth are dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The classroom teacher must be a relationship builder, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies in a 1:1 school district.
Requirements:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License
  • Middle Grades Math Endorsement

Essential Functions:
  • Knows the grade-level standards and can translate standards into appropriate middle school learning tasks, differentiating and sequencing activities as needed based on student-readiness and assessment data
  • Possesses strong classroom management skills whereby routines and procedures foster respectful interactions, and high levels of student engagement and agency
  • Places equal emphasis on developing students' procedural fluency and conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts in an 84-minute teaching block
  • Works with instructional coach and grade-level team to effectively implement the district's math program, Desmos; routinely incorporates low-floor/high-ceiling math tasks into classroom practice to formatively assess and develop students' conceptual understanding of math concepts
  • Structures effective cooperative learning scenarios, allowing students to engage in rich mathematical discourse and collaborative problem-solving
  • Analyzes formative and summative assessment data to inform future planning; tracks usage data in Dreambox, using it to remediate lagging skills through small group instruction during the daily RtI block
  • Embraces the district's Collaborative Problems Solving discipline model, emphasizing student-teacher relationships to develop high-functioning students who engage fully in learning
  • Actively supervises students during transitions, assisting with bus loading and unloading as directed
  • Works with grade-level team and support staff to effectively accommodate students with health, learning and behavioral needs, adhering to the requirements of an IEP/504
  • Assess each student's progress in math; prepares documents and communicates progress reports to students, parents, and school administration
  • Performs basic student attendance accounting and maintains and submits upon request accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals
  • Takes part in staff meetings and district meetings as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by principal

Minimum Expectations:
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; communicates successfully with diverse populations (virtually or in person)
  • Ability to meet deadlines, to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and collaborate with colleagues and coaches
  • Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect
  • Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff

Salary:
Based on placement schedule per the negotiated certified staff contract. PROFESSIONAL NEGOTIATIONS AGREEMENT

Position is full time, 7 hours/day, 180 days per school year
