DESCRIPTION:
Kearny High School is seeking SAT Prep Course Instructors to facilitate courses in the Reading/Writing/Language and Math sections of the SAT exam.  Instructors will be hired for either ELA or Math.  The structure of the program will consist of a 3-hour block of time with two groups of students attending ELA for 1.5 hours and Math for 1.5 hours. There will be 6 days in each teaching SAT course cycle. Teachers will also receive 6 hours (maximum) to prepare lessons and/or score practice tests for each cycle they teach.  
RESPONSIBILITIES:






  • Plan and deliver effective SAT prep lessons for Math and Reading/Writing/Language in a three-hour block on Saturday mornings (see schedule below).
  • Create a positive and engaging learning environment that fosters student participation and motivation.
  • Develop customized curriculum and instructional materials to address the specific needs of students preparing for the SAT.
  • Assess student progress through regular quizzes, practice tests, and assignments.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and guide them in areas requiring improvement.
  • Motivate and inspire students to set and achieve their target SAT scores.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure program success.
  • Attend periodic meetings with program coordinators to discuss curriculum and student progress.
  • In the event of an unexpected absence, instructors would be expected to provide substitutes with a detailed plan of instruction for the missed session. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be certified teachers.
  • Duties must be performed outside of regular school duties/hours.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, English, or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching SAT prep courses or relevant tutoring experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of the SAT Math and Reading/Writing/Language sections and test-taking strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm for helping students reach their academic goals.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable and punctual.  

Cycle Schedule:
Applicants must be able to commit to the dates and times in the cycle for which they apply.  Applicants will not be required to commit to both cycles.  They will be asked to indicate their availability in the application.
