Unlike automation testers, manual QA engineers perform testing without the use of automated tools, relying instead on test cases and user scenarios. As a contractor, they are hired for a specific project or time period, providing flexibility to companies that need short-term quality assurance support. Their work is crucial in maintaining software quality before release, often collaborating closely with development teams to resolve defects. They also document test results and help improve test processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract manual QA engineer?

To thrive as a Contract Manual QA Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software testing fundamentals, test case design, and defect reporting, usually backed by experience in QA or a related field. Familiarity with test management tools like JIRA, TestRail, or Zephyr and knowledge of various operating systems and browsers are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you identify issues and collaborate with development teams. These skills ensure thorough testing, accurate documentation, and timely delivery of high-quality software products.

What are some common challenges contract manual QA engineers face when joining new projects?

Contract Manual QA Engineers often encounter challenges such as quickly understanding unfamiliar codebases, adapting to different testing processes, and integrating with established teams. About project
The project is a next-generation property management and operations platform used by multiple stakeholders across a large organisation. It includes interconnected Angular portals (tenant, manager, and integrator) on a modular .NET architecture in Azure, with API-driven communication and real-time sync between services.
The goal is to modernise legacy systems into a scalable, maintainable platform with strong automation, CI/CD, and consistent quality across environments. The team works in Agile across backend, frontend, QA, DevOps, and product.
This Senior QA Automation Engineer owns test automation across UI, API, and integration layers, keeps delivery quality high, and works closely with the wider team so releases are stable and predictable.
