Overview
Garmin International seeks Senior Software Engineer (Olathe, KS; Multiple Positions):
  • Develops moderately complex software in C, C++, Python or other selected languages for new products and/or applications.
  • Designs and/or reviews architected modules and software systems supporting new technology or improving capability/performance of existing functionality.
  • Execute manual and automated tests of Garmin software in accordance with established testing protocols to ensure quality and compliance with stated requirements.
  • Decomposes functional requirements into well-defined tasks.
    Researches fundamental problems and implements algorithm solutions that are appropriate.
  • Offers peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs.
  • Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
  • Provides technical mentoring and guidance without formal supervisory responsibilities. This is an individual contributor role.
  • Full-time remote work is not available.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Computer or Software Engineering, or related field, plus 5 (five) years of progressive experience as a software, embedded or design engineer, and demonstrated experience in the following:
  • C, C++, and Python
  • Embedded Linux with Yocto Project
  • Architecting with multiple code modules
  • Version control systems including Git.
  • Algorithms and data structures
  • Full software development life cycle including requirement gathering and system designs
  • Software development support tooling including Jira, Gerrit, Confluence, Jenkins, and Jtag
  • Object oriented design documentation methodologies including UML and sequence diagrams
  • Automated software delivery and testing principles including continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) and test automation frameworks including Labgrid, Zuul, Jenkins, GoogleTest or similar
  • Software engineering tools including build systems (Waf, Make or other), compilers including GNU tool chain, debuggers including GNU debugger (GDB) and emulators.

In lieu of a Bachelors degree plus five years of progressive experience, will accept a Masters degree in the same plus three years of experience as a software, embedded or design engineer.
