Job description

H&H is seeking a Chief Inspector to join the firm's Construction Services Division. This position is responsible for overseeing construction inspection activities on major highway and transportation projects throughout the New York Metropolitan Area. The successful candidate will lead inspection teams, ensure compliance with contract requirements, and support the delivery of high-quality construction projects through effective field oversight, documentation, and quality assurance.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience on major roadway and expressway projects, including concrete pavement repairs, asphalt milling and paving, pavement markings, drainage improvements, utility protection, and related highway construction activities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise construction inspection teams on highway and transportation projects
  • Review contract documents, including plans, specifications, and project requirements, to ensure compliance during construction
  • Develop and assign inspection work tasks based on project scope, schedule, and construction activities
  • Verify that inspectors understand applicable plans, specifications, details, and requirements for assigned work
  • Review inspectors' field performance to ensure construction inspection services are performed accurately and effectively
  • Review daily inspection reports for completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation of work activities and quantities
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation to support quality, safety, and compliance objectives
  • Verify that material certifications are submitted, reviewed, and accepted in accordance with contract requirements
  • Ensure required field testing and material sampling activities are performed and documented appropriately
  • Monitor Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) and Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC) operations to ensure proper setup, maintenance, and removal throughout construction activities
  • Assist the Engineer-in-Charge and Resident Engineer with contract administration and project oversight activities

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or NICET Level IV certification required
  • Minimum of ten years of highway construction or construction inspection experience
  • Extensive experience on major roadway projects involving High Early Strength (HES) concrete pavement repairs, asphalt milling and paving, pavement markings, drainage system improvements, utility protection, and related construction activities
  • Experience working on projects throughout Long Island and the New York Metropolitan Area preferred
  • Strong knowledge of highway construction methods, inspection procedures, and contract administration practices
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret contract plans, specifications, and construction requirements
  • Experience managing and mentoring construction inspection staff
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance and quality control procedures for construction projects
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Certification
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training
  • Experience using NYSDOT SiteManager or similar construction management softwar
  • Experience supporting NYSDOT, NYCDOT, MTA, TBTA, or other transportation agency projects

Benefits
Salary range- $135,000-$175,000 annually. Salary commensurate with experience.
