Job description

Description:Project Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical Engineer)


Reports to: Project Engineering Manager Work Location: Clear Lake, SD

Functional Area: Project Engineering Required Travel: none

Exempt Status: Exempt Salary Range: $67,000+ year/DOE

Schedule: 9/80

Job Summary: The Project Engineer will be responsible for the technical management of products, processes, and schedule impacts.


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Creates, reviews and revises technical data packages.
  2. Performs analysis of product and/or process design to be implemented in production.
  3. Utilizes a variety of computer-based systems in performing functions.
  4. Writes procedures and work instructions for Production to perform and assists with training.
  5. Conducts Process Hazard Analysis as assigned or needed.
  6. Reviews customer contracts to determine product specifications and/or needed details.
  7. Upon hire, works with others in the bid proposal process and its activities to secure customer sales.
  8. Participates in, even leads, the Corrective Action Request process with other support groups.
  9. Responsible for maintenance activities at the facility that could generate hazardous waste and other environmental management responsibilities.
  10. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Required Knowledge and Skills/Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility.
  3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.
  4. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a college or university (i.e.: mechanical, electrical, or chemical). Three to five years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of failure analysis techniques and tools.
  6. Ability to conduct Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA)/Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA) preventive activities.
  7. Experience and/or exposure to an OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated work environment preferred.
  8. Experience with ammunitions, arms and explosives design and/or development for Department of Defense (DOD) preferred.
  9. Ability to interface with customers effectively and efficiently through various communication means: verbal, written, presentation-style and onsite visits.
  10. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  11. Understanding and application of ISO requirements upon hire.
  12. Ability to work effectively with other employees as part of a team.
  13. Ability to multi-task in support of end-result/goal.
  14. Excellent organizational skills.
  15. Ability to set and establish priorities.
  16. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.
  17. Function Specific RCRA training upon hire.

  7. Bending, kneeling or squatting is required to perform duties such as filing or moving materials.
  8. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
  9. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives.
  10. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility.
  11. Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD). Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
