The main difference between a Contract Golf Course Server and a Part-Time Restaurant Server lies in the work environment and scheduling. Contract Golf Course Servers work outdoors at golf courses, often seasonally and on weekends, with minimal certifications required. In contrast, Part-Time Restaurant Servers work indoors in restaurants, typically year-round, with some food safety certifications. Both roles involve customer service and food service skills, but their settings and schedules differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract golf course server?

To thrive as a Contract Golf Course Server, you need experience in food and beverage service, basic math skills, and knowledge of health and safety regulations, often supported by a food handler's permit. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and mobile ordering devices is typically required. Exceptional customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask under pressure are crucial soft skills. These abilities ensure efficient service, guest satisfaction, and smooth operations in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

What are some common challenges faced by contract golf course servers, and how can they be managed?

Contract golf course servers often work during peak hours, including weekends and holidays, which can make balancing work and personal time challenging. Additionally, the outdoor setting means servers need to be prepared for varying weather conditions and long periods of standing or walking. Effective communication and organization are essential, as servers frequently coordinate with kitchen staff and work with golfers who may have specific requests or time constraints. Building strong teamwork and maintaining a positive attitude can help manage these challenges and ensure high-quality service.

What is a contract golf course server?

Unlike full-time staff, contract servers may work seasonally or for special events, offering flexibility to both the employer and the server. They play a vital role in ensuring a positive guest experience at golf courses by delivering attentive service.

Dining Room Server (Year-Round) - McGee's 72

HM MANAGEMENT, LLC

Williamsburg, MI • On-site

$12 - $15/hr

Full-time

Re-posted 22 days ago

Job description

McGee's 72 is a bustling, full-service restaurant set along the Spruce Run Golf Course, just minutes outside Downtown Traverse City, close to Grand Traverse Resort and Turtle Creek Casino. As a year-round favorite for locals, golf members, and visiting travelers, our dining room is built on genuine hospitality, attention to detail, and strong teamwork. This role is ideal for career-oriented servers and hospitality professionals who enjoy a fast-paced, professional environment and want to grow with an established front-of-house team while delivering a consistently elevated guest experience.
We are hiring for two year-round roles:
• 1 Part-Time Server (3 days per week; great fit for someone looking for a second job or supplemental income)
What you'll do:
• Provide warm, professional service to every table, from greeting to farewell
• Guide guests through food and beverage offerings and make confident recommendations
• Take accurate orders and coordinate daily service using SpotOn POS and OpenTable reservations
• Coordinate timing with the kitchen and bar to ensure smooth, efficient service
• Deliver food and beverages with proper service standards and table etiquette
• Support larger group dining throughout the year
• Monitor your section, anticipate needs, and resolve guest issues promptly
• Work closely with an established team to ensure smooth, consistent service across the dining room
• Maintain clean, organized tables, service stations, and side work areas
What we're looking for:
• Previous serving experience (scratch-kitchen, busy full-service, or similar strongly preferred)
• A career-minded approach to hospitality and guest service
• Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with guests
• A team-first mindset; reliable, accountable, and supportive of coworkers
• Ability to stay organized and calm during busy services
• Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
• Extensive wine, beer, and cocktail knowledge is not required, but is a plus
About our menu and service style:
McGee's 72 serves American-style fare alongside custom cocktails, craft beer, and local wines. Servers who are excited to learn the menu, speak confidently about beverage offerings, and help guide the guest experience will do well in this role.
Schedule and pay:
• Part-time: 2-3 days per week, year-round; ideal for a second job or supplemental income
• Opportunities for additional hours
• Competitive hourly base plus tips
• Staff dining discount and ongoing training and development opportunities
How to apply:
Apply with your resume and a brief note about:
• Your serving or hospitality experience
• Your current availability
Resumes can also be dropped off in person at McGee's 72 during non-peak hours.
