Job description


Muskegon Community College, an associate degree-granting institution of higher education, is a center for lifelong learning which provides persons the opportunity to attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs.
General Description:
This position is responsible for maintaining a fun, welcoming, safe, secure, clean, and orderly golfing environment while assisting all teams within the department. The individual must be able to operate independently, demonstrate sound decision-making, follow appropriate safety practices, and deliver top-notch customer service across multiple areas, including but not limited to the clubhouse, parking lots, equipment, and select grounds areas.

Required Skills
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Friendly, positive, dependable and punctual.

  1. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a successful team while accomplishing tasks and assignments without assistance.

  1. Demonstrated ability to follow written instructions.

  1. Prior grounds/landscaping experience required. Prior commercial golf course experience preferred.

  1. Demonstrated ability for vehicle and small engine maintenance and repair.

  1. Physical ability to lift 25 lbs. minimum with a preference given to those able to lift up to 50lbs.

  1. Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with people of all ages, races, and social-economic backgrounds.

  1. Demonstrated use of tact, judgment and discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  1. Highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of the College.

  1. Must be adaptable and flexible to changes in tasks, processes and locations.

Essential Function:
  1. Perform all duties related to mowing of all greens, fairways, and tee boxes including assisting with rough when needed.

  1. Adjust holes and tee boxes daily.

  1. Sprinkling/irrigation of fairways and greens.

  1. Clean up course and pick up garbage throughout facility including sticks/brush and other things that may disrupt play on the course.

  1. Operate, clean and maintain all equipment daily as used to perform duties, including mowing and irrigation.

  1. Adhere to all safety and health regulations, and report all unsafe conditions to Supervisor.

  1. Act as course ranger at any time while at facility addressing concerns or reporting issues even when utilizing free golf benefit.

  1. Assist with equipment and vehicles as assigned.

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Environmental Factors:
  1. Must be able to perform repetitive body mechanics, including but not limited to climbing stairs, standing, stretching, twisting, bending, crouching and kneeling.

  1. Prolonged standing and sitting

  1. Repetitive stretching, twisting, bending, and lifting along with working on ladders, roofs and crawl spaces.

  1. Must be able to adjust to differing weather conditions as nearly all work is outdoors.

  1. Occasional lifting: 50 -70 lbs.; Regular lifting on a daily basis: 25 - 50 lbs.
