We are looking for strong fundamentals, attention to detail, and genuine curiosity.
Key Responsibilities
Report and Dashboard Development
  • Build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards under the direction of senior team members, following established team standards for data modeling and design.
  • Write and troubleshoot SQL queries to extract, join, and validate data from client and internal source systems.
  • Assist in developing data models, measures, and calculated columns using DAX and Power Query.
  • Apply design principles for layout, color, and readability so dashboards are clear, intuitive, and consistent with Garver standards.
  • Support ongoing maintenance of existing reports, including scheduled refreshes, issue resolution, and enhancement requests.

Data Preparation and Quality
  • Gather, clean, transform, and validate data from multiple sources, including spreadsheets, databases, ERP systems, project management platforms, and GIS data.
  • Perform quality checks to confirm the accuracy and integrity of data and calculations before deliverables go to review.
  • Document data sources, transformation logic, assumptions, and known limitations.
  • Identify data discrepancies and anomalies, raise them promptly, and help research root causes.

Project and Client Support
  • Complete assigned project tasks within budgeted hours and schedule, tracking your own progress and communicating status and obstacles early.
  • Participate in requirements gathering sessions and client working meetings, capturing notes and documenting requests.
  • Assist in preparing materials for client presentations, program reporting, and training sessions.
  • Coordinate with engineering staff and project managers to understand the data behind the deliverable.

Learning and Development
  • Build technical skills through mentoring, structured training, certifications, and hands-on project experience.
  • Learn Garver's markets - transportation, aviation, water, buildings, and federal - and how analytics supports infrastructure planning and delivery.
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing, standards documentation, and process improvement ideas.
  • Stay current on business intelligence and data visualization best practices.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in analytics, business intelligence, or a related role. Internships, co-ops, and substantial academic or personal projects count.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI or a comparable data visualization tool such as Tableau.
  • Foundational SQL skills, including the ability to write and modify queries with joins, filters, and aggregations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and working with large data sets.
  • Strong attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to ask good questions and explain what you built.
  • Ability to take direction, manage assigned deadlines, and collaborate as part of a project team.
  • Curiosity and a demonstrated willingness to learn new tools and subject matter.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or reporting.
  • Experience with DAX and Power Query/M.
  • Exposure to data modeling concepts such as star schemas, relationships, and dimensional design.
  • Familiarity with Python, R, or another scripting language for data preparation and analysis.
  • Exposure to GIS tools such as ArcGIS, or interest in geospatial data.
  • Interest in the civil engineering and infrastructure industry, particularly transportation, aviation, or water.
