Job Title: Senior Technical Project Manager (External Manufacturing & Supply Chain)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and operations-focused Senior Technical Project Manager to provide leadership across external active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing. In this role, you will oversee commercial supply operations and critical strategic initiatives at contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), acting as the central integrator across quality, supply chain, engineering, regulatory, and finance to translate overarching program strategy into disciplined, reliable execution.
This is a high-impact contract position for a professional who thrives in a highly regulated GMP environment. You will coordinate cross-functional obligations between internal teams and external partners, manage integrated project plans and budgets, drive risk mitigation strategies, and champion continuous process improvements. Key Responsibilities
CMO Oversight & Project Delivery
• Relationship & Scope Management: Manage project scope and develop integrated project plans that articulate partnership strategies, key initiatives, and foundational operational milestones.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate operational obligations between internal teams and contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), overseeing quality interfaces, supply chain coordination, deviation/CAPA handling, and change-control processes.
• Milestone Execution: Drive the delivery of project milestones across the initiative lifecycle, ensuring adherence to phase-gate and stage-gate governance frameworks.
• Communication & Governance: Develop and implement robust team communication plans, ensuring key decisions, risks, and performance metrics are transparently reported to stakeholders and leadership.
Risk, Financial & Process Management
• Risk Mitigation: Monitor, prioritize, and manage project and supply risks, proactively identifying mitigation strategies and initiating contingency plans when necessary.
• Financial Governance: Drive the development of integrated project budgets, manage financial tracking, and ensure strict alignment across functional representatives, finance, and leadership.
• Continuous Improvement: Champion process optimization initiatives to strengthen schedule discipline, reduce costs, and enhance the reliability of commercial supply chains.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a Scientific field, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of 5+ years of relevant professional experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
• Technical & Operational Mastery:
oDemonstrated experience overseeing the project lifecycle of commercial or external manufacturing at a contract manufacturer (CMO/CDMO).
oComprehensive understanding of GMP environments, quality oversight, supply coordination, deviation/CAPA interfaces, and contract governance.
oProven capability applying project management tools and processes (scheduling, risk management, phase-gate governance) across cross-functional teams spanning quality, supply chain, engineering, regulatory, and finance.
oProficiency with project management and scheduling software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, Smartsheet) alongside Microsoft Office Suite.
• Core Competencies: Self-managed with strong organizational skills; exceptional interpersonal and team-building abilities; proven capacity to build effective collaboration across organizational boundaries.
Preferred Attributes
• Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., M.S., MBA, Master's in Project Management, PMP, or a commissioning/qualification/validation credential).
• Direct experience managing commercial supply agreements and technical transfers within the biopharmaceutical sector.
