Job Summary

Control Solutions Group, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Management Systems (BMS) Technician IV to provide expert technical direction for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of complex Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) within dynamic construction environments. This pivotal role requires a proven ability to diagnose and resolve intricate technical issues across a broad spectrum of systems, including DDC, EPMS, and Energy Management Systems. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of advanced control strategies and building automation principles, enabling them to effectively troubleshoot and optimize system performance.

The BMS Technician IV will provide mentorship and guidance to installation subcontractors, ensuring seamless coordination of construction activities and adherence to project timelines. This role demands exceptional problem-solving abilities and a commitment to delivering high-quality results while upholding stringent industry standards. The successful candidate will drive project success by leveraging their technical expertise to minimize downtime, optimize system efficiency, and exceed client expectations

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

On-Site Strategic Project Leadership (Wasatch Front and Statewide):

  • Directly execute complex automation installation projects on-site, encompassing both new construction and retrofit initiatives, across diverse project sites concentrated along the Wasatch Front and extending throughout the state of Utah with a hands-on approach.
  • On-site collaboration with the Project Manager to analyze scope changes, assess priorities, and manage project deadlines, ensuring seamless project delivery across varied geographical locations and project types, actively participating in field operations.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of contract documents, RFIs, and project correspondence at the job site to accurately determine scope execution, mitigating potential discrepancies and ensuring alignment with project objectives, regardless of project location or type, demonstrating technical proficiency through direct involvement.

On-Site Subcontractor Management and Technical Oversight:

  • Provide expert on-site direction to subcontractors, prioritizing tasks, authorizing work, and meticulously tracking progress to meet critical milestones on project sites throughout Utah, actively working alongside the team.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions in the field to overcome project challenges, enabling timely commencement of subsequent trade work and minimizing project delays at diverse locations, offering hands-on assistance when needed.
  • Orchestrate on-site coordination with other trades and the General Contractor, ensuring accurate device placement, installation compliance, and optimal system functionality on projects spanning the state, providing direct technical guidance.

Technical Expertise and System Optimization:

  • Execute advanced point-to-point check-out, commissioning, diagnostic, and maintenance procedures in the field on intricate building automation systems, including front-end workstations, servers, and control devices, in both new construction and retrofit settings, demonstrating hands-on technical mastery.
  • Employ advanced troubleshooting techniques on-site to diagnose and repair complex building automation system panels, communication equipment, and electronic components, adapting to the unique challenges of each project site, working directly on system repairs.
  • Optimize building automation system performance by editing Automated Logic WebCTRL programs and graphics, defining point parameters, and implementing energy conservation measures through advanced system features, tailored to the specific needs of each project in the field, actively participating in system programming and configuration.

Project Documentation and Team Development:

  • Maintain meticulous project documentation, including commissioning reports, daily logs, as-built drawings, and status updates, ensuring comprehensive project records across all Utah project sites from the job site, while also participating in field work.
  • Provide on-site mentorship and training to junior technicians, fostering their professional development and contributing to the team's overall technical proficiency, working side-by-side with trainees.
  • Proactively pursue continuous professional development, staying abreast of industry advancements and enhancing technical expertise, applicable to the diverse project environments encountered in the field, and sharing gained knowledge with the team through direct application.

On-Site Relationship Management and Professional Conduct:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal team members, clients, subcontractors, and other trade contractors, representing the company professionally throughout Utah at the project site, leading by example through professional conduct and active participation.
  • Demonstrate exceptional time management and adaptability, effectively managing short-term and unpredictable deadlines, while working at different job sites, and readily assisting the team to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company and client information, regardless of project location, while working hands on.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Routine Lifting: Ability to routinely lift and carry objects weighing less than 20 pounds and occasionally carry up to 50 pounds.

Working from Heights: This position may require working from ladders

Qualifications
  • Minimum 4-7 years field experience in the HVAC controls industry including DDC Systems commissioning, software integration operation, calibration, and experience with pneumatic controls.
  • Knowledge of Automated Logic WebCTRL software tools and field circuit debugging skills preferred.
  • Understanding of the construction industry with emphasis in mechanical/electrical fields.
  • Able to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Strong communication, organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, WebCTRL and various operating systems.
  • Proven track record of completing jobs on schedule, being self-motivated and achieving full customer satisfaction.
