Job description

Financial Analyst
Department: Buckstop
Employment Type: Contract to hire
Location: Washington, DC
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 / year
Description
About Buckstop Industries
Founded in 2025, Buckstop is building the intelligence layer for the circular economy. Our mission is to create a sustainable end-of-life for every electronic device on Earth, transforming yesterday's waste into tomorrow's resources.
We're reimagining how enterprises manage electronic assets by creating a platform that identifies, tracks, and maximizes the residual value of devices at scale. In a fragmented industry where value is lost through layers of intermediaries, Buckstop provides a single source of truth and execution.
Our founding team brings together leaders from manufacturing, logistics, reverse supply chains, energy, mining, and technology who have experienced the industry's challenges firsthand and are building the future of asset recovery and circular commerce.
Your assets. One platform. Maximum value. Full stop.
The Opportunity
Buckstop is seeking a highly analytical and entrepreneurial Financial Analyst to join our founding team. This is not a traditional finance role.
We're looking for someone who enjoys building systems, creating processes from scratch, and partnering directly with leadership to help shape the financial infrastructure of a rapidly growing company. Experience in the energy sector is preferred.
You will support financial planning, accounting operations, tax compliance, customer project analysis, automation initiatives, and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate combines strong financial fundamentals with a startup mindset and thrives in environments where ambiguity is an opportunity rather than a challenge.
This role reports directly to the founders and will play a critical role in helping Buckstop scale responsibly.
What You'll Do
Financial Analysis & Reporting
  • Analyze customer projects, profitability, pricing, and operational performance
  • Build and maintain financial models, forecasts, budgets, and operating plans
  • Design and implement scalable financial workflows and processes
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting and accounting activities
  • Develop KPI dashboards and recurring reporting for leadership
  • Support fundraising, investor reporting, and strategic planning initiatives
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses to support business decisions

Accounting & Tax Operations
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist with accounting operations, reconciliations, and financial controls
  • Research and apply relevant tax codes and compliance requirements
  • Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors
  • Ensure financial data accuracy and integrity across systems

Energy Valuation Work
  • Directly contribute to valuation and analysis of customers energy assets
  • Build insurance and project finance models for energy projects
  • Calculating raw material and critical mineral contents
  • Conducting sensitivity analysis for commodity pricing
  • Build models and reports for valuation purposes

Founding Team Contributions
  • Operate with an ownership mentality and willingness to tackle challenges outside your job description
  • Contribute to company strategy, process design, and operational excellence
  • Help establish the culture, standards, and best practices of a high-growth startup
  • Work cross-functionally with leadership, customers, and external stakeholders

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, accounting, corporate finance, or related functions
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills
  • Understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and tax regulations
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
  • Experience building reports, dashboards, and financial processes
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA certification (or active pursuit of CPA)
  • ASA or MAI appraisal designations, or USPAP-compliant experience
  • Experience at an early-stage startup or venture-backed company
  • Experience supporting fundraising, investor relations, or strategic finance initiatives
  • Familiarity with automation tools, financial systems, and business intelligence platforms
  • Experience creating scalable finance and accounting processes from the ground up
  • Experience in the energy, minerals, recycling or commodities sector

Who You Are
  • You have a founder mentality and naturally take ownership
  • You prepare thoroughly before execution and sweat the details
  • You enjoy solving messy, ambiguous problems
  • You care about building systems that scale
  • You are intellectually curious and continuously learning
  • You are resourceful, adaptable, and accountable
  • You want to help build a category-defining company from the ground up

Why Buckstop
  • Founding-team level impact and ownership
  • Direct access to founders and executive leadership
  • Meaningful equity participation (0.25%)
  • Opportunity to build finance infrastructure from day one
  • Work on one of the most important sustainability and circular economy challenges of our generation
  • Join a mission-driven team solving a massive global problem

If you're excited about building the financial foundation for a company transforming the circular economy, we'd love to hear from you.
