Job description

AeroTEC's Engineering Services Department supports and provides comprehensive, full-service aerospace engineering services to customers in aircraft design and certification. The Engineering Services Department is responsible for providing engineering consulting services related to aircraft performance, similarity analysis, reviewing and supporting certification activities, determining test requirements, and planning and documenting testing to meet customer needs. The Engineering Services Department provides several areas of expertise in Flight Sciences, Electrical Systems, EWIS, Avionic Systems, Mechanical Systems, Powerplant & FIFA, Air Systems, Cabin Safety, Structures and Liaison Engineering.
AeroTEC seeks an experienced Group Lead, Avionic Systems. This position is responsible for managing the performance of his/her assigned Group. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance.
In this role you will:
  1. Manage the Group to ensure goals and objectives (i.e. metrics) are met or exceeded, productivity levels are high and the needs of customers are met or exceeded.
    • Assign work to Group members.
    • Manage short- and long-term group planning. Track goals and progress toward them. Report status regularly to appropriate parties.
  2. Responsible for hiring, managing, developing and motivating a team of direct reports. Foster a safe, goal-oriented, accountable work environment within the Group.
    • Build a Group organizational structure with appropriate, cost-effective staffing levels to ensure operational performance standards are met or exceeded.
    • Fully engage as the "hiring manager" throughout the hiring process (e.g. complete Job Requisition Forms; interview candidates; make timely hiring decisions).
    • Complete performance previews for direct reports (i.e. employees). Regularly identify and celebrate accomplishments. Aggressively manage poor performance and work with Director and HR to address issues according to company guidelines.
    • Manage workload and assignments for contractors. Work with Director and Contract Labor Business Coordinator to address business issues as appropriate.
  3. Responsible for proactively and timely communicating information to the Group and out to the rest of the organization. Facilitate regular Group meetings. Participate in all-employee meetings. Attend and participate in various management meetings as required.
  4. Act as a role model within the organization. Lead by example. Build the company's image by collaborating with customers, vendors, other managers/leads as well as employees. Comply with and support company policies, procedures and practices. Enforce respectful and ethical business practices. Maintain high quality standards.
  5. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and mentor for Group Members within the appropriate Engineering discipline.
  6. Proactively identify and properly address safety issues. Act as a "champion of safety" for the organization.
  7. Ensure compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations.

Engineering
  1. Complete Engineering work as needed.
  2. Complete tasks and projects as assigned by manager.

The Skills You Will Bring (Minimum):
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related field.

Experience
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience in an appropriate Engineering discipline.
  • Three (3) years of experience directing the work of multiple Engineers.
