Job description

Open to Current Olin Employees Only
Title: C/A DCS Operator- Vacation Relief
Location: Charleston, TN
Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts
Focus: C/A DCS Operator is responsible for controlling the overall operation of the Chlor Alkali process, from Brine through Chlorine and KOH/NaOH production. The DCS Operator rotates responsibility for operating areas in Chlor Alkali systems.
Essential Functions:
  • Operate the overall plant AC power and DC power equipment for the electrolyzers within given operating parameters.
  • Operate the electrolyzers, evaporators, and hydrogen system.
  • Operate chlorine drying, compression, liquefaction, and bromine removal systems.
  • Operate the dechlorination, sulfite removal, resaturation, settling, filtration, purification and feed brine systems through the process control system.
  • Operate chlorine stock tanks, including liquid flow in and out, tank pressures, padding blowdown, evacuation, etc., and inventory and status data.
  • Operate chlorine pipeline transfer to Solenis (formerly IWC) including transfer records and evacuation of line when necessary.
  • Work closely with the C/A Field Operators to coordinate operation of all areas within the C/A production area.
  • Control overall plant demand by operating under the current TVA power contract and responding accordingly to power curtailments.
  • Maintain certification on Chlor Alkali Field Operator roles to fill in for vacancies as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with area supervisors and other operator technicians.
  • Perform minor maintenance to maintain good and continuous 24-hour operation.
  • Maintain a shift log book of significant conditions, information, or results.

Position Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current or prior certification in one or more C/A Field area is preferred (brine, electrolyzer/evaporator, and chlorine). DCS operating experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate instructions and information effectively via radio.
  • Must meet the physical requirements, including, but not limited to, climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
  • Must be able to digest and disseminate written information and make numerical calculations sufficiently well to perform assigned general and specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Must have basic computer skills, Microsoft Office experience preferred. SAP experience preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC
