Job description

The Pad Printer Operator is required to have advanced knowledge of CNC controls and mechanics and advanced programming skills. This position will troubleshoot which involves diagnosing breakdowns, disassembling equipment, and replacing defective machine components. This position will monitor high-tech equipment. 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Work safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by following Company and OSHA safety rules and regulations, understanding machine safeguards, recognizing and reporting safety hazards, and wearing required PPE.
  2. Perform advanced set-ups on equipment, install tools and fixtures, verify machine control settings, run first piece sample parts, and check for required specifications.
  3. Select, load and test computer program for each job, make offsets to the program, and make necessary machine feed, speed, and axis point adjustments.
  4. Monitor machine operation, check parts throughout run, and make necessary adjustments to ensure part specification and quality standards are maintained.
  5. Troubleshoot problems via the troubleshooting guide and through specialized knowledge/experience with the machine. Repair equipment, diagnose breakdowns, disassemble equipment, and replace defective machine components.
  6. Replace, reset, and sharpen tools when necessary.
  7. Perform general machine maintenance, clean machine, check oil and coolant levels and add as necessary.
  8. Complete inspections throughout run, record inspection findings on inspection sheets, and write detailed downtime and other shift communications in a log book.
  9. Report accurate count of production parts, scrap, and labor hours by completing required paperwork and/or electronic entry.
  10. Keep work area in clean and orderly condition, complying with established 6S standards.
  11. Cross-train by rotating to different machines and work areas as required.
  12. Participate in various lean manufacturing activities to improve products, reduce waste, or learn new skills or operations.
  13. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and Three (3) years experience or equivalent.
  • Metalworking or metal removal experience and CNC certification or metalworking/tooling certification preferred.
  • Must possess knowledge of basic math skills. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand basic English.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word). Ability to use micrometers, calipers, go/no-go gauges, or indicators, perform visual inspection, read part drawings and blue prints for basic quality checks.
  • Ability to learn, problem-solve, and make decisions per work instructions and documents.
  • Ability to communicate and work as a team member.
  • Ability to securely load and align raw materials, orient workpieces, and adjust programs (X, Y, Z and R axes) to ensure print conforms to artwork print
  • Ability to disassemble, clean, and reassemble ink cups, print pads, and fixtures to prevent machine downtime.
  • Familiarity with touch-screen machine interfaces, Microsoft Outlook/Teams, Inventory management (components & production supplies), and Production schedule adherence & record-keeping.
  • Understanding of ink chemistry, including the proper measurement and addition of hardeners and thinners to optimize the printing process.
  • Excellent near vision to inspect finished items, ensuring accurate registration (alignment), crisp image transfer, and zero smudging or distortion.
  • Ability to identify and resolve print defects such as ink splash, print voids, bubbles, misregistration (color alignment), or fading by tweaking ink viscosity, machine settings, pad location and/or pad durometer.
  • Fine motor skills required to safely handle pads, engraving plates, and print substrates.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift moderately heavy printing materials and products (up to 50lbs).
  • Capability to interpret detailed job work orders, blueprints, production schedules, emails and technical specifications.
  • Strong critical thinking to react to mechanical hiccups quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
