Job description

The Senior Electrical Engineer leads the design and development of electrical systems on moderately complex projects in several product categories. This role mentors entry-level engineers, ensures adherence to design standards, and takes ownership of technical decisions within their domain of expertise while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

1. Lead schematic capture, circuit simulations, and part selection for new designs.
2. Develop advanced analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit blocks for products.
3. Perform in-depth root cause analysis on complex hardware failures or field issues.
4. Define system-level electrical specifications in collaboration with systems engineering.
5. Lead cross-functional design reviews and resolve open technical issues.
6. Oversee layout and routing to ensure performance, thermal, and EMI compliance.
7. Establish verification plans and ensure full test coverage for design validation.
8. Mentor junior engineers on test methodology, circuit analysis, and documentation practices.
9. Work with manufacturing teams to develop production test strategies and jigs.
10. Track task progress, update project schedules, and communicate status to stakeholders.
11. Integrate new technology into designs, including advanced microcontrollers or power ICs.
12. Write comprehensive design documentation including test reports and design justifications.
13. Manage engineering build logistics, including BOM review and kit releases.
14. Lead peer design reviews and contribute to the electrical design checklist process.
15. Collaborate with suppliers to optimize cost, availability, and performance of critical components.
16. Analyze and mitigate EMC/ESD risks through simulation, testing, and shielding techniques.
17. Drive improvements in PCB layout guidelines and design tool usage.
18. Review and approve changes to PCBs and assemblies.
19. Ensure component libraries are up-to-date and meet internal design standards.
20. Support product sustainment efforts for obsolescence and customer issue resolution.
21. Develop guidelines for documentation consistency and release processes.
22. Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution or program with three (3) to five (5) years of of direct electrical work experience.  Must have strong technical, analytical, planning, time management, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.  Prior experience in the design of hand-held electronic products and rechargeable battery systems is preferred.  Strong working knowledge of electrical engineering concepts with proven experience designing circuits, analyzing test data, and independently validating design performance.  Experience with small rechargeable batteries (18650, Li-Po pouch, etc.) preferred and small rechargeable battery USB charging methodologies and designs a plus.  Prior experience with AC/DC, DC/AC and DC/DC power electronics is preferred.  Must possess strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present both technical analysis and financial based justifications allowing further decision making within all levels of the organization.  Ability to function in an environment of constantly changing priorities, goals and direction often amid stressful conditions and under time constraints. Strong team focus and the ability to work with others, both internal and external to the organization.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required.
