Summary:
The Electrical Engineer III - Electrical Engineering provides engineering / conceptual and detailed designs of utility-scale renewable power plants (wind & solar) and battery storage systems. Aids in operations support renewable power generation projects; while supporting the development, engineering, and construction of projects.
Requirements:
  • Develops and reviews the preliminary and detailed design of AC (Low, Medium, and High Voltage) and DC systems, including DC power blocks (PV) and MV AC collection systems (PV/Wind).
  • Develops models of the AC substation and collection systems and performs and reviews Load Flow and Short Circuit analyses, DC and AC loss calculations, cable ampacity studies, and AC/DC cable sizing.
  • Performs and reviews calculations for sizing and specifying main power transformers.
  • Supports estimating company-developed and 3rd party projects by creating preliminary designs for proposed projects and quantity counts for estimating electrical equipment costs.
  • Prepares and reviews specifications and construction documents to identify design and performance requirements for procurement of electrical materials and equipment.
  • Performs technical review of proposed equipment to ensure acceptability to company, client, and industry standards.
  • Works with designers to develop and review construction drawings and documentation to communicate electrical installation details effectively to construction teams.
  • Provides input to team members working on other project areas, including grounding system design, substation design, and medium voltage collection system design.
  • Prepares and analyzes weekly project updates for electrical engineering design progress for project management.
  • Performs assignment and progress tracking of tasks for team members and sub-consultants.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
  • Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
  • Provides support to construction during the construction and commissioning phases.
  • Reviews work instructions periodically to ensure compliance with industry and client standards.
  • Develops new methods and standards for Group design activities.
  • Visits sites as needed during pre-construction and construction to support project needs.

Safety:
  • Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action. Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or 8 years equivalent experience is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P. Eng.) certification is required.
  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • 5+ years of power generation industry with EPC experience is required.
  • Ability to travel 5-15%.
  • A valid drivers license is required.
  • Advanced level of knowledge in:
    • Power Systems Analysis, load flow, and short circuit modeling
    • Reactive compensation evaluation
    • DC and AC Electrical Design
    • Design for Constructability
    • US and Canadian Industry Standards
    • Preparation of Equipment Specifications
    • Oral and written skills include:
      • Clear and concise technical writing
      • Ability to communicate issues internally with Electrical, Solar, Civil/Structural, and Mechanical Engineers, CAD Designers, Project Managers, and Contract and Estimating Teams and Externally with Clients and suppliers
  • Intermediate level of knowledge in:
    • Medium to High Voltage Substation Design
    • Transmission Line Design Concepts
    • Grounding System Design Concepts
    • Project Scheduling Concepts
    • Detailed Design Software:
      • MathCAD
      • Fundamental understanding of CAD concepts
      • Fundamental knowledge of power system software such as DIgSILENT, SKM, and ETAP
      • Basic understanding of grounding software like WinIGS or CDEGS
      • Knowledge of Dynamic Modeling Software such as PSS/E
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including listening and summarizing skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Must have a valid current driver license, eligible for corporate vehicle insurance coverage.

Anticipated base salary range: $110,000 - $139,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
