Role Overview
A position is available for a DevOps Lead to contribute to an enterprise-wide transformation within a technology organization. This role combines hands-on engineering with strategic leadership, focusing on modernizing pipeline enablement and advancing DevOps practices across operating units. The individual will begin as a senior-level DevOps engineer to understand the current environment before transitioning to a team and thought leadership role.
What You'll Be Doing
Phase 1 (First 3-4 Months): Hands-On Engineering
  • Operate as a senior DevOps engineer, actively contributing to CI/CD pipeline development and cloud infrastructure.
  • Assess current DevOps practices, tooling, and pipeline maturity across teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, efficiency, and scalability.

Phase 2: Leadership & Transformation
  • Transition into a DevOps Lead role, overseeing a team of 5 engineers.
  • Drive DevOps transformation initiatives across multiple operating units.
  • Establish and evangelize best practices for pipeline enablement and platform engineering.
  • Partner with development teams and business units to define strategy and improve delivery processes.
  • Balance 50% strategic leadership and 50% hands-on engineering.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Promote a culture of ownership, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align DevOps strategy with business goals.
  • Guide adoption of cloud-native and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Enable teams to build scalable, secure, and efficient delivery pipelines.
  • Mentor and support DevOps engineers, fostering technical growth and accountability.
  • Incorporate a FinOps mindset-optimizing cloud cost, usage, and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
  • Experience in DevOps engineering and platform enablement.
  • Proven experience working with GitHub (or similar source control and CI/CD tooling), cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), and scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, etc.).
  • Experience working in environments that include both cloud and on-prem infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and operational transformation.
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers (formal or informal leadership).

Skills:
  • Communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Exposure to AI/automation tooling within DevOps environments.
  • Background in FinOps practices, including cost optimization and cloud governance.
  • Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments (e.g., financial services, insurance).
