BIW is hiring Desktop Publishers at the following levels: 

  • 2nd Class Designer: $29.34/Hr. - $31.51/Hr.
  • 3rd Class Designer: $26.75/Hr. - $28.39/Hr.

The successful candidate will join the Technical Publications group as part of BIW's Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) organization as a Desktop Publisher. The primary focus of this group is the development and submittal of the US Navy Technical Manual products required by our contracts.

The Desktop Publisher will accomplish the following tasks:

  • Review the format of US Navy technical manual products to ensure adherence to contract requirements.
  • Utilize desktop publishing software to produce new and revised US Navy technical manuals.
  • Prepare and submit Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) data items.

Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • High School Diploma / GED required. 
  • Associates Degree preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience

This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance.  You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.  For more information regarding the security clearance process, please visit Investigations & Clearance Process (dcsa.mil) 

  • Experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) or Extensible Markup Language (XML) files or an Associate's Degree in Graphic Arts & Design is required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, are required.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Above average familiarity with Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be detail orientated, well organized, and able to strictly adhere to product schedules.

2nd Class Required: 

  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) or Extensible Markup Language (XML) files is required. 

3rd Class Required: 

  • Minimum of one (1) year of practical experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and/or Extensible Markup Language (XML) files, OR
  • Associates Degree in Graphic Arts & Design.
