Job Title: Technical Specialist I - Global Trade & Compliance
Location: Katy, TX (On-site)
Pay Rate: $35-$40/hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Duration: 6-month contract (potential for extension)

Overview

Our client, a leading global industrial technology organization, is seeking a Technical Specialist I to support Global Trade and Engineering Operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with international trade regulations by working closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Global Trade Services.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in trade compliance, product classification, and global logistics, looking to grow their expertise in regulatory and environmental compliance within a dynamic, global environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate product classification using Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN)
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international import/export regulations, including EAR and ITAR (as applicable)
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations to support new product introductions (NPI) and engineering changes
  • Maintain accurate trade compliance data within classification and jurisdiction systems
  • Partner with Global Trade Services to validate and approve product classifications
  • Support the global movement of goods by ensuring proper documentation and regulatory alignment
  • Ensure adherence to internal compliance policies, procedures, and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
  • Drive and support continuous improvement initiatives related to trade compliance processes
  • Maintain strong data integrity across systems, including ERP platforms
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 1+ year of experience in trade compliance, customs, or global logistics
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Import/export regulations
    • HTS classification
    • Country of origin rules
  • Experience working with ERP systems and compliance databases
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in an ITAR-controlled environment
  • Exposure to REACH and RoHS regulations and environmental compliance concepts
  • Experience supporting product environmental compliance activities
  • Familiarity with:
    • Material declarations
    • Substance data collection
    • Supplier compliance documentation
  • Understanding of how environmental compliance integrates with trade compliance and ERP data management
  • Experience supporting NPI and engineering changes from a compliance perspective
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and maintain accurate compliance data
